I find these comments very rude and unnecessary. I asked AKAI for confirmation before I bought this machine. The recent responses in this forum are very sad and I find them most annoying.
Comment by Justin Baro at AKAI:
Unfortunately those settings in the MPC will default to those values and there is not a way to change them to load up differently. Also the memory cannot be changed to allocate more to the sequencer side and less to samples. That’s a great feature request! The sequence files created by the MPC’s store MPC specific settings such as tempo, time signature, tracks, and mixer settings. This is proprietary information that only an MPC can read. He can convert the .seq files to .mid in the MPC 2500 Save screen, though this would loose some of the MPC’s tightness that it is famous for.

Comment from AKAI before purchase:
Hello Mike,
I believe that you will be able to use the MPC2500 for your performances.
You can load 99 Sequences at 64 tracks in a sequence at a given time, and up
to 128MB's at once with the upgraded RAM. If you are using outboard gear you
would technically be loading just sequence files which could take literally
moments to load, depending on how many sequences and the size of them you
are using at a given moment, you may need to load files in-between songs or
every few songs, but the files would be almost instantaneous in terms of
load time.

what a waste of time for you and the people that tried to help u, maybe checking at the specs before buying a gear next time would be helpful.
I was told it would would accept 99 files at 960 ppq by an AKAI employee. (See above) NO IT WON'T!! It's 96ppq.
You should have sold it before!
It's only 3 months old!!!!!!!!
btw i load about 1 hour and an half of midi files for my liveset and it works perfectly. I have about 6 gears connected in midi working perfectly. I play about 20 to 30 tracks - sequences without problems also when previously done in Logic/Cubase or whatever. The Autoload works good, what a waste of time for you and the people that tried to help u, maybe checking at the specs before buying a gear next time would be helpful.
How do you load 1 and a half hours of midi when the most it is possible to load is less than 1.4Mb? Each AKAI seq file uses about 180k. - I make that and my machine demonstrates so less than 25 minutes!!
I DID express my appreciation for all the help I was given; however; the machine would not do what I want. I'm a very qualified expert with over 30 years use and Plato awarded in the UK.
Despite all your observations this machine is NOT designed for professional MIDI use as you can see from all my previous postings.
Please don't post any more rude responses - I am not attacking this forum or the excellent support I was given merely observing that AKAI have not given priority to MIDI.
My machine is still now on sale - frankly for what I want it's useless!! :
