IVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT A BARE BONES MPC 1000 WITH 16 MB OF RAM IS PRETTY MUCH USLESS.

SO FAR I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DO MUCH WITH THE MPC 1000 AS EVERY TIME I START TO CHOP UP SAMPLES AND GET INTO A PROJECT THE INSUFFICIENT MEMORY ERROR APPEARS....

I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR MY KINGSTON 256 MB PC 133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM RAM CARD AND 2 GB COMPACT FLASH CARD TO ARRIVE.

I AM CONFIDENT MY PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED WITH THIS UPGRADE $$

DAMN YOU AKAI!

Yeah the cards and RAM are nice. I got the 120 Gb HD in there too. It's a godsend.

yup the mpc 1000 is almost useless without the added mem ram.

You'll have lots of fun plenty of mem ram once you get your package.

Enjoy

WOW ALL I WAS TRYING TO SAY IS I FEEL LIMITED TO WHAT I CAN DO WITH IT OUT OF THE BOX.

I HAVE MANY IDEAS AND AM UNABLE TO EXPAND ON THEM...THIS LEAVES ME FRUSTRATED.

I HAVE MUCH RESPECT FOR THE MPC 1000 AS IT IS MOST DEFINITELY A GREAT MUSIC PRODUCTION TOOL.

I HAVE MADE A HANDFUL OF DECENT TRACKS ALREADY AND PLAN TO KEEP MAKING MORE.

AS FOR CHOPPING UP WHOLE DAM SONGS....

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE I'LL KEEP THAT IN MIND BUDDY

Learn to use a sampler as sampler and not a dedicated timebased recorder.
The problem is your understanding of the application of dynamic sampling.
The mismanagement of ram is you.
Blame yourself for not understanding exactly what you got yourself into.

More ram is fine but 16mb is an adequate amount of ram. Your favorite hiphop
songs in the past have been made with less than 16mb. Useless, think again.

When people like Primo, Pete, Marley Marl, Shadow, etc, started out they'd have been thrilled if someone had told them that, one day, they'd have been able to buy a sampler with 16MB standard memory expandable to 128MB. When I first started out on a borrowed eps16+, I used to use the old technique of pitching up before sampling then pitching back down post-sampling to make maximum use of minimum memory. Also gives a crunchy sound to samples.

Try sampling in mono you will have more to work with. Stereo takes up more memory than mono.
