play samples directly from the hard drive.

I'm considering to use the MPC for our Live show. But all our beats are full 3-4min .wav mixes.

Is it possible to trigger /play the beats directly from the hard drive, since you probably can't load them all into the ram.

Which MPC can do this?

I dont know if any can. but the 1k cant play from the HD.

i think a minidisc player would be a safer bet. CD players don't deal very good with the vibrations on stage. Unless maybe the numark or Pioneers. But those are expensive too. Too bad the mpc doesn't feature this. I think a lot of acts could use a backing track feature, not comming from a computer for safety reasons.

How about loading them into serato?

The MV-8000/8800 has 32 banks (512 pads) of Audio Phrases just for that purpose. While not an MPC, it'll easily do exactly what you described . With 512MB you can load all of your large wavs and trigger them in a variety of ways.

The SP-555 will do it best but it won't transfer from the stage back to the studio very well as it's a live box first and foremost. It'll stream directly from a 2GB card giving you close to 13 hours at 44/16 Stereo. You can use the software set up the box before the gig so you don't have to figure this stuff out. The pads are small so may want to add a full size 4x4 controller to trigger it.

I can trigger samples from my harddisk. But I think that's a JJ feature.
