can't write on the compact flash

hi there, i am new to the forum.

i just installed a atapi reader in my mpc2000xl. i have v1.2. it reads card fine (saved on a blue mp) but i cannot write (save) my files on it. the card i am using is fine, i've used it on the blue one and could read and write.

any idea?

Your reader is likely read only. You could try to find out if read/write firmware is available from the manufacturer.

Ah yup doubt your gonna be able to update with that Reader being that it's probably not hot swappable.

jsut checked and it clearly says reader/writer ide/atapi card reader.

i am also able to swap cards while the mpc is running

also just so you know, i have tried 2 different brand and size cards. both which are working perfect with the blue mcd mpc.

i didn't try the pc format though only the mpc one

it should work formatting it with the mpc.
although, you can try it formatting in the pc. but be sure to use fat(16).

i have a kingston 1 gb card and it works perfect.

You should never format them with the MPC now your computer won't read it.

the computer will read it, you just have to format it.

just tried fat and fat32, none of them works

it definalty says read/write on the box though

I know this is a ridiculous suggestion but have you tried asking for help from the folks who sold you the drive?

Maybe it has a jumper on the back for setting write protect? Would be strange, but you never know.

You could also put the drive in your PC and see if you can write then.
