Yes but on the fantom you can assign every parameters of the synth to those 4 knobs ( lfo osc etc.. ) no ?

The knobs and sliders can send CC messages exactly like the MPC 5000. These can be automated. The knobs/sliders are also used to adjust synth parameters like ADSR, LFOs, etc but you can not record this as automation.....the same behavior as the 5K.

so basically in terms of synth automation it's better to have a separate synthesizer than to have an integrated one, as almost every parameter on the external synth can be automated, which is certainly not the case in the mpc5000's synth.

grrr.

The MPC 5000 is not a synthesizer. It is a drum/phrase sampler and MIDI sequencer first..with an on-board synth added to its feature set. This is the first MPC to attempt this. The 5Ks synth is far from a Moog. So I wouldn't buy a 5K expecting it to compete with a hardware synth.

The 5k is supposed to be a 'pro sequencer' with the addition of a VA synth, so it is pretty lame that you can't record automation!

I think the buzzword here is 'integration', or total lack of...

That's not an accurate statement. You can record automation of the synths level, cutoff, resonance, attack, decay, and release...

That is very good news that you can record the cutoff automation because this is one of the things I automate the most together with the attack and the release... very common trick of mine. I guess these things are in the qlink panel as opposed to the regular synth panel. Gotta try that out today... I feel better now : ) 8)
