Mac & ProTools users

I would like to go mac & ProTools for multi tracking and mastering. I don't have the buget to spend 1200 to 2000 grand on just a new G4 or G5. Any alternitive Macs out their around 1100 or under that will run a protolls system and do more than just get the job done.


PLEASE ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD HELP.

I am sure you can find a G4 for 1100 no sweat man. I got a dp 1.25 g4 about a year ago with 2 gigs of ram for like 1500 new.

I think this question would be best answered over at Digi forums under that compatiblity seciton they have (i think).

Ohh any G4 should do the trick if u ask me...check on ebay 4 some older cheaper models

Thanks all, thats all I'm looking for is a little direction, you gota start from some were and that sould be one ( the ones you know) . I will check those boards and if I'm not mistaken thay make G4s with diffrent proccesor speeds. Can you trust a MAC or PC off of Ebay.

I bought my mac dual processor G4 867mhz off ebay. for 1500.
come to think about it, I bought my 2000xl off ebay too. So far
I've had good luck. I would spend the money for a good comp.
its worth it in the long run. Definitely get a dual processor, @
least 867, try for a 1 gig. More RAM, da better.

I know you asked about a Mac but you also said "any" suggestion so I would look into a custom built PC, I put together a system for less than a grand that rivals a G5 in performance with Pro Tools.

I put together a mini pc/2.4ghz/P4(case, small internal hd, processor, 1gb ram, external audio drive, cd burner). All this only cost me about $450 and runs Protools 6.1.1 flawlessly. I haven't had any problems yet with plugins, trackcounts or latency. I can't see spending a fortune on a mac when the cheaper pc will do the job. And yes I was definitely sceptical at first when everyone was telling me that I was going to have problems with protools on a pc.

Try www.craigslist.com for a used Mac to run something like an MBOX (or is it XBOX) anywayz...

go to www.digidesign.com and look at the specs for what you want to use on a good computer you find - G4 Powerbooks are coo' and I bet you could find one for about a grand used
