about a "LLC", can someone put on knowledge with this?

ive set some goals today, to be done by the end of this year. two of them are "to have my production company name/logo copy written so no body could use the name/logo, and to also copy write a independent label name. when i brung that up to a friend, he asked me if i was gonna get a "LLC", an when i asked him what that was, he really couldnt explain it, can someone explain "LLC" to me?
