Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

how come when you hook up and external midi keyboard to the 500, theres no order to how the samples are laid out? i've seen the screen under the midi/sync screen, but re-assigning them is a **** and it never seems to work.

what im saying is that i could have a sample at middle C on a keyboard that is normally in pad bank A, and then a sample in bank C that is a half step above that Middle C.

it makes no sense, none of those midi assignment notes are in any orginized order.

any suggestions to how to get em laid out nice and orderly?

My 2kxl is the same way, why Akai never made the notes in order right from the get is beyond me.

What you can do to get around this is to make a blank program, place the note numbers in order and then use that as a template everytime you start a new program. Done.

I don't know the 2kxl very well, but this is how it works on a 1k. When I've chopped my sample, and convert it to chopped samples, the mpc asks me if I want to assign the samples to a program right away. Most of the time I go for this option. So actually I have the option by assigning the notes manually, or load in my template program and assign the samples manually. Saving the note assign as a default won't work either. anyway I just accepted that assigning notes is a timeconsuming proces
