Tupac beats.... MPC...? Hmmm

yo!

listening to some tupac today, i noticed some similarities in sound between some of the beats he used. some kind of grittiness, the high frequencies don't sound that natural, kinda computer like. but thats good.

songs that def have it: picture me rolling, shorty wanna be a thug, poor out a lil liquor, if i die tonight..

now. what i would like to now, and maybe you mpc heads know, is this because of a certain way of sampling? things like bitrate and aliasing and all that..

From what I understand a lot of Tupac beats were done on 12 bit samplers which often put a little bit of a ring modulation on the sound.

daz dillinger made some of his shit on an mpc i think.but 2pac was known for getting beats from anyone.it didnt matter who it was.he would rap over anything

most of pac beats were done on either the sp1200 or a mpc 60/3000. for instance Johnny J used a sp1200 while Quik used a 3000. so basically all his beats were done with the 1200 or mpc's. chuuch!

plus,if you think when pac died,september 96',think about what equipment was out then.3000 came out in 94 i think and so did asr-10's. i dont even think pro tools is that old?maybe im wrong

There was Soundtools that came out in 89. (fromd Digidesign)
Protools 1 came in 91.
Protools 3 came in 94 (with 16 to 48 voices)

Johnny J used a MPC3000 too in the '90s cause I jsut bought it from him.

It just dawned on me. A lightbulb just went off. The songs you mentioned sound that way because the were all done by the sp1200. Johnny j produced pmr,shorty wanna be,and pour out a lil liquor,and easy mo bee produced if i die tonight. All of these songs were done on the sp. Im a big pac fan so i know this like the back of my hand. Thats the true 12bit sound. Man i miss the 90's.

you have to consider the time it was and the equipment that was hot in those days before they planted him... i dont listen to his music but from what i have heard it sounded more like copmuter stuff to me thats why i didnt like it.

but 12 bit an 8bit all day for me .i ike REAL GRIMEY THE BETTER

digital under ground and topac i get around is it, and maybe afew other songs that the names didnt stick to miod. no i wasnt impressed buy his music

thats cool i respect everyones opinons,but your one of the few that i heard say that.
