Where to buy MPC 3000 - New York

Hi Everyone,

I'm going out to NY in late November (all the way from New Zealand, where you can't really get anything) and I'm looking out for where I can pick up an MPC 3000. I know this may be a long shot and if all else fails I will just have to go for the 2500 but if anyone knows of stores or people who sell these it would be much appreciated.

Quartz, if you are looking for a store or a licensed Akai dealer, then I would suggest Armen's Music Shop. Look him up. He's also listed on the Akai website as a licensed Akai dealer and repairman. Likewise, the good thing about him is that you get a functioning machine. The bad thing about him is that like all used gear that is no longer in production you can never guarantee that he will have it in stock and there is a chance that the only ones that he has may not be in perfect cosmetic condition.

You can also work out trades with him but he can be kind of a pirate when it comes to trading things. He's always trying to make a profit. But I'd say he's good if you want a functioning machine at whatever is the current market value. Very little chance if any that you will get away with a steal of a deal.

Another place to check out is located in the same building as Armen's, whereas Armen is located in a storefront on ground level, there's Rogue Music which is inside the bldg. You take an elevator to get up there. Look it up. They don't seem to be licensed repair people but they do sell vintage gear. But sometimes they sell things that aren't always in the best condition.

Both stores are located near Herald Square.

Guitar Center sometimes has an ocassional vintage MPC for sale but all the vintage MPCs Ive ever seen at GC have been duds (broken this broken that missing buttons etc.) and they are also overpriced.

Other than that you can also look in Craigslist to see if anyone has anything for sale who might be willing to meet up with you.

Word up. I completely believe this story. If you are buying from him tho you have a better chance buying in person. You have to really be a stickler to his face and try everything out and see it and make sure he doesn't sell you something that looks like it came out of a dog's ass.

I wouldn't buy anything from him over the internet. He is a pirate. But if you go there in person and be a pain in the ass about every little detail you have a better chance. And in terms of finding vintage gear in stores in NYC. He's one of the few places.
