get jjos2 and use inst programs and its easier than the way you'll read about it in the manual....
but basically assign the same sample to every pad. then tune every sample up or down by a step depending on where the sample is centered. then you have to map the pads on the "other" screen to go in order chromatically (not sure if you can do this in the program editor, but seem to think you can). its all very exciting.

16 levels is just like changein the tune . Shortins or elongates the sample . Chromatic's the wat to go!

16 levels does not work with midi! And it sux! Why are people trying to boost this feature when they don't even know how it works?

Both 16 Levels and Patched Phrase are "noob bait" features. Akai wants the noobs to think those features make everything sooo easy but anybody who knows how those functions work also knows how limited they are and how they do not replace proper programming.

Even if it did work with midi, you'd only be able to play 16 notes on the keyboard. Program it the right way with auto chromatic and you get all three pad banks and you never have to switch modes to get there.

Edit: that should say "all four pad banks" even better...

I use 16 levels all the time and I'm aware of how it works, I also have made quite a few patch programs. Just offering an option, people shouldn't take it where it need not be taken.
