Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By tjasinto Fri Jun 11, 2004 4:13 am
Hi. If I open up my brand new MPC 2000XL to do some upgrades to the SIMMS and the the internal Zip drive will I be in violation of my warranty? Wil there be some kind of protective sticker inside that if it gets torn then my warranty is void? Also whaty's up with the static shock that you have to look out for when opening it up? Will touching lets say the metal part of a screw driver every so often help prevent it?

if you bought your mpc new, it is still under warranty which means that any recognized service center has to do it for free. Once youstart fiddling with the innards-you hafta pay..........dont take my word for it-just call akai and ask 'em for yourself....keep us posted chief......

best thing to do is buy a wrist strap that removes static from your body. they are real cheap at radio shack... or staples. If you still going to open it on your own touch the metal casing of the mpc before you go in there.

Touch something that's grounded. Touching the metal casing on the MP will only work if it's plugged in. Don't open it when it's plugged it.

yea what you are talking about is ESD eletro static dicharge. Your body can release up to 8000 volts yea 8 thousand so imagine what that can do to imternal cicuitry and chips. Just make sure to touch something that is grounded every once in a while
