Question about sampling from a computer?

Hey wuddup all. Sorry for the rookie question but I got my MPC a few weeks ago just as i was starting up with school so i havent had as much time to play with it as i'd like. anyway, ive just got a basic question about getting samples from a computer using the USB ports...

Basically, I've just been messing with the sounds that come with the mpc and id really like to start sampling. I was wondering how one would get mp3 files downloaded onto a computer onto the mpc. I've downloaded lots of kits and ive also been chopping up tracks using audacity but i cant figure out how to get this stuff onto the 500.

any help would be greatly appreciated! also, if this information is in an obvious place in the manual just let me know cuz i must have missed it. thanks a lot

Take your mp3's and bounce em to 16 bit wav. 44.1 . Make a folder , put em all in it . Mount the usb in the save screen , click drag and there you go.

They also have software to create mpc programs on your computer. Look up bluebox or mybunnyhug if your runnin a Mac.
Not sure of it work with the 500 , four less pads.

bluebox does work even if you had all the 16 pads assiged (the 500 would ignore them)

it seems the 500 may just be a cut down version of the 1000, if you save a program from the 500 and load it into a hex editor it says mpc 1000. I wonder if anyone has been inside and seen the hardware and compared them.

true, thanks for the advice, i forgot to mention that im working with windows Vista which is a huge headache... anyway, my main problem is that my computer wont even recognize the mpc as an external drive when it's connected with the USB. How can i click and drag folders into the mpc if i can't even call it up on the computer? u know what im sayin?

Get a usb compact flash card reader and you'll be all good.

as far as loading samples through usb port, connect the mpc to the computer. then on the mpc, hit MODE->LOAD.

it should read 'LOAD: PROGRAM'. you should highlight 'PROGRAM' and data wheel to the right until it reads 'USB CONNECTED' . it'll take a few seconds for the computer to recognize the mpc as a drive, but once it does, you can drag and drop files between the mpc and the computer.

as far as sampling off mp3, i would just sample straight into the mpc from your computer (or from any audio source for that matter). in order to do that, you have to find a cable that plugs in from the outs of your computer into the ins of your mpc. remember, your mpc is a sampler!

Also since your using audacity you can just highlight what you want to sample and go to file : export selection as wav.
