mpc 500 tutuorial worth it?

what up guys - just thinkin about gettin the tutuorial for the 500...just wanted to know if anyone else has it and if its worth the 40 bucks.....i know a decent amount about the 500 but learning anything new is great. thanks for the time! peace

It's not bad for $40. . . . I seen that DVD that some guy is selling. He wants $80 f*ckn bucks. frig that sh*t. I would buy it if you have no idea what the MPC does.

Nah i wouldnt say the manuel gives you all your answers. I say if your a straight beginner then yea the Tutorial book will help you for sure. It helped me a lil with more of the "advanced" features, but not to much. The only thing that i didnt like about the book is that it showed you how to do it with premade samples. I think just defining everything would've helped me out a whole lot better. But if you have $40 just to make sure your doing everything right. Then yea it's worth it

Yea i would say if you have time on your hands just throw some random samples in2 your MPC500 & mess around with that. You'll figure sh!t out. Best experience is hands on experience. So dont be afraid to f#ck up. Your not gonna blow your machine up. The only way to figure out the MPC & fully understand it is f#ck up a few times. i'm gettin mine down pretty damn good. Just one step @ a time that's all. I cant mess with my 500 as much as I'd like cuz i gotta take care of my baby boi.

ya i've been on the MPC's for a while....just didnt know if there were any good tricks in the tutorial or anything like that....im probably use the 40 on a new skin for my 500...only thing im hatin on the 500 is NO CHOPSHOP! but im learnin to be more creative with sampling, doin a lot of chopping on audacity. i really actually like choppin on there, very easy, good sound and effects....i'll have some songs up soon..but good look on the responses guys, i appreciate it! im prayin for the day JJ puts together an OS for the 500 - i just know if dude did that the 500 would be incredible.....

I have been into synths for 30 years now. The 500 is my first MPC ever. I found the tutorial very useful for first timers. Worth it for me.

i had the 1k before with the jj os, so i know if he makes one for the 500 - it woudl be incredible!!!! im sure he could work some kind of chopshop in it too.....i'd definately pay the guy 40-50 for the os...

i bought the tutorial... id have to say its ok.... its not the easiest to follow but its good enough. the one problem i have is the countless typos in there. its nothing big, usually little stuff like 'mine' written as 'min' or 'your' as 'you' or 'the' and 'he'. like i said nothing big but theres usually one every 2 pages and its a bit annoying considering i paid good money for this, and the writer hasnt even bothered to fix up the little mistakes in it

Here's my thoughts on it, and I've browsed through a friend's 500 tutorial once.

If you have a background in samplers and/or music production already and you have a thorough knowledge of the production techniques and styles of your favorite genre(s), this book is not really useful. If you know what chopping is, if you know how to loop, if you know what a low pass filter, compressor, or reverb does -- you don't need this. For those folks they just need to sit down with the manual and learn where the functions they need are in the MPC's interface.

If you're just getting your feet wet with production in general, then I can see it as a good thing. It's just a supplemental kick in the ass to get you started. I know I was too lazy to learn the ropes of Final Cut through the manuals, so I bought a "For Dummies" book and was good to go -- eventually figuring more complicated stuff out on my own.

I think being techno-literate has a lot to do with it too. If you've been around computers all your life and have musical knowledge you'll be in good shape with any sampler.

I don't have the ebook so I can't say anything about it, but I got my MPC 500 last weekend and it only took me about two days to figure this thing out. I got hung up on the concept of the tracks at some point because I didn't know that the MPC could play several programs at the same time, but once I figured it out I was thrilled at the possibilities.
It's my first MPC ever and I already have the feeling that I pretty much know all there is to it by now. Then again I'm into producing music for about twelve years so that might have helped me along the way.
Personally I think 35 euros for a pdf is kinda expensive considering that you have to print that thing yourself, but if you don't know the last thing about sampling it just might be worth it. Even though the manual covers everything it is somewhat dull to read.
Anyways, I'm glad that I got it down and that I've saved the money for the book.
