card reader in mpc2000 classic. a little manual.

It all works fine



Specs:

SCSI modification
Akai IB-ID2SC (IDE to SCSI) I grapped out of my S5000.
IDE cardreader (because I could not find a SCSI one).
Inportant is to find a reader which is bootable.



Inportant is to put the SCSI "id" switch to "0" (zero), save system 1.72 on the CF, now the MPC2000
can boot quick and directly from CF.
Pros: quite, very fast, small, etc, etc.

Not bad for a MPC witch was one year ago death and put in a shoebox as parts.
I bought it for $150,- and have made it alive with a new display, 8-out, EB-16FX, new switches and slider
and the SCSI modification by Destruktiv.

I like the 2000 classic very much, I like it more (sounds better) than the XL which I also have owned.
I've record the TR-808 and use the samples in my 2000, it really sounds good.

Where I can find Akai IB-ID2SC Bridge or another SCSI/IDE Bridge ?? Producent, model ??

IDE 40 pin to SCSI internal 50 pin...

I don't believe those Akai SCSI-to-IDE converters are made any longer and are probably hard to find. We have some ACARD SCSI-to-IDE converter units available but they are 68-pin internal, which means you'd also need a 68 to 50-pin adapter. We also have those.

What other options are there? I want to see how you connected a card reader to the classic without soldering, like pictures inside the MPC.

At last I upgrade my MPC2000 to internal ZIP100 model iOmega Z100Si. Also I install internal floppy drive to boot because from zip drive my mpc not always boot.

Do you know how scsiforsamplers.com actually offered the internal SCSI option with no soldering?
I think I saw this thing on their site but they seem to be no longer in business...

I was thinking about the soldering thing, it is not a big problem, but i didn`t want to make it messy inside with this mod and another ribbon cable...

It even can be mounted in the SMPTE slot and then you just have a db25 cable attached to the back of your MPC. I haven't personally done this yet, since I can't get my drive setup to work yet, but I've gone over the pinout and it seems to be identical to the one linked by destructiv. Hell, for ten bucks it's worth a shot, that soldering project is no joke!

If we could get this going, it could be a really cheap CF option for the MPC, though I have run into some obstacles that may invalidate this possibility.
