Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi guys,

The memory on my 2k classic was playing up (sometimes loading with 2mg, sometimes more but crackly), so I got two new 16mg sticks from ebay and put them in last night. I did it on a tiled floor, and touched metal before I touched the sticks and mp every time. When I booted up, it said I only had 2mg installed. I thought that I had messed up seating the ram, so I swapped them in the slots and then rebooted, only to find that it said I had 0 mg installed.

I tried a few more times with no luck, and then put in my original sticks to see if it would read them. It says 0 mg installed with both sets.

Does anyone have any advice? Have I messed up both sets of ram? But shouldnt it read 2mg automatically? Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

2mb is default on the motherboard when no ram is seated.

if you get 0mb when sticks are inserted then u have bad ram or the sticks aren't seaated properly.

thanks for the info.
i think i've identified what's wrong actually- one of the little poles that hooks into the eye of the ram stick is wobbly, and does not lock in properly. do you think it's safe for me to carefully superglue the base of the pole, or should i take it to a dealer to repair?

Super glue, go ahead.

MAKE SURE no excess superglue will spill over and prevent contact between ram pins and slot pins though. MAKE SURE!!

more safe methods could be........

tape

or small peice of paper

or something to hold it in place.
