mpc500 vs mpc1000

really is there anything different besides the 4 less pads because im dont wanna spend 1000 bucks (that i dont have) on a mpc1000 if i dont need to

anyone with used mpc1000 that works and in mint condich tell me

I missed a lot of things on the 500 that made me switch to a 1000. But there are enough peeps who are completly satisfied with what the 500 offers. So here are a few points the think about so you u can conclude for urself whether ur need a 1000 or not.

- The small screen on the 500 will slow u down in workflow.
- No chopshop, also because of the small screen.
- Only two outputs. Tracking songs will take longer then with the 1000, which has 6 outputs, so you can track 6 sounds at the same time.
- No option for JJ OS.

If have no idea what I'm talking about, get a 500. If u think these things I noted will come in to play in the nearly future, go out and get a 1k. Even a brand new with the good pads will be worth the money.

Also, the 500 only has a low pass filter..at least mine only has one filter.. I just got it..a newer OS may have more features..

You serious? Damn, this little box is out cold. It's basically everything I wanted the 2000XL to be years ago. Faster processor with a high pass filter. I'm convinced the MPC500 WILL be a highly sought after machine years after it's discontinued..almost like the 808 or something. Keep sleeping on this people!
I'm not at home right now, but can you resample sounds like on the 2000XL? I really liked the resampling but it was too slow to really use? With the faster processor in the 500, i'd use it everytime (if it's possible).

Yeah I'm fairly sure that the 500 can resample internally as well as it's own outputs.
The highpass filter was added in OS version 1.30. There was a bug where it wouldn't save those highpass settings. But that's been fixed as of OS version 1.31.
Many of the bugs that plagued the 500 up until recently have been fixed, making it more of a desirable machine than what it once was.

For that price, you're really getting more bang for the buck!
If i didn't own a 1000 (and if the JJ OS never existed), I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 500 at all.

I was talking about the resampling like the XL has..where you can resample down to 12bit/8bit and change the frequency. It sounds pretty decent, but on the XL, it takes forever. With the faster processor in the 500, this would actually be a usable function.

The bitcrusher effect on the 500 can get you some low-bitrate sounds. Not quite the same thing, but can achieve similar results in a much more tailored manner.

U can resample ur stuff with the 500. Go to ur recording menu, highlight the output field which probably will read ANALOG, and change it to MAIN OUT. Here u go. But u can't resample in other bit depths or frequencys with the 500

i shitted on the 500 at first until i read the specs and figured it was just like the xl. still better off wit the 1g.

If you've never owned an MPC before I would advice you to go for the 1000. Had the same dilemma myself a couple of months ago, and I got the 1000. The learning curve of the 500 is much more steep, mostly because of the tiny screen. I wouldn't say no if someone wanted to give me one, but that's just because it would be fun to take my MPC to the top of a mountain and hammer out some beats there.

Conclusion: If you're livin la vida gypsy (travelling alot), go for the 500. If you're thinking of using it at home or whatever, cop the 1000. Peace.
