My 1000 is Frozen on Power Up - Anyone know what to do?

Hello, my 1000 won't go past the power up screen. It's not even making it up to the point where it shows the OS, and then usually moves right on to the main menu. It's just blank. Is there anything I can do myself to fix it? I haven't done anything differently to it recently and there haven't been any power surges or blackouts in my area.

Never had that happen myself. Have you tried holdin the window button while you turn it on . this brings you to the boot screen...........Oh , and you didn't say what OS you were runnin , JJ or Akai ?

Thanks for the reply. Everything is back up and running, here is what happened.

The expanded RAM was jarred lose somehow, maybe when I was dusting around the unti. See, I purchased mine used on ebay (about 2 yrs ago) and had been using it for about 5 months before I decided to upgrade the RAM. I purchased the RAM and when I went to install it, I noticed the latches that hold the memory in place WERE BROKEN! It wasn't as simple as just putting new latches on, so I had to figure out a way to keep the memory in there. I ended up using a packaging peanut, wrapped in black electrical tape to prevent static, to wedge in place. It has worked well ever since, but it came lose somehow. I re-positioned it, stablizing it again, and everything is working fine now.

With that being said, I'm going to upgrade my OS now, I think I'm still on 1.9 , something below 2.

You should def download the jj os , version 3.08 is free. One thing that makes it all worth while is the trimmode, So much quiker scrollin thru samples .
There's a bunch of other stuff , but you can read that on the comparison sheet .

Thanks, I just put version 2.12 on. There was something funky about 3.08, but I can't remember. I had something to do with creating folders at the saving stage. I can't quite recall, but I remember it wasn't worth the aggravation I was experiencing, so I just went back to the basic Akai OS. I'm up to date now. Truth is, I haven't mastered my current OS, so I don't know what I'm missing yet. I guess I should master and memorize everything I need to know in my current version, until I get to the point where I'm "hmm, I need to do this, but I can't . . . oh, new version can do it . . ." I'm not quite there yet.

Hey Nym, how did you get the expanded memory to stay in yours? I'm afraid I may need to "ree-jar" mine in, I started getting funky screens today while I was working on a mixtape. I would tap the bottom of the mpc where the memory is, restart it and it would work fine. It seems every little budge is making it move and that's not good - God forbid it freezes on me while making a beat. I think I just need to get it firmer, maybe throw another packing peanut in there so it won't budge at all, really pack in there.

LOL - I can spare $11 . . . it looked tricky though to fix it, as if the latches were actually apart of a bigger piece. I called a reputable music shop in nyc (Rogue) and the dude said it's attached the the circuit board, or something like that, it would require a lot of work to replace the brackets . . .maybe he was wrong? if it comes with D.I.Y. instructions, i'll get it, THANKS!
