What?! To me, compressing is an important part of making a beat.

To each his own, I use compression sometimes but not all the time. Mostly on vocals though..

Seriously, try it. I used to run all my drums thru a DBX 266XL, now I moved up to an Avalon Vt747sp. I love it. It works. Try using the settings set for drums & keyboards according to the manual, if you're good with compression.

About a couple of weeks ago, I tested a TL Audio Ivory compressor on my 2kxl and all I can say is one thing: EQ and Compression can make your beats sound more like LARD than just fat.

Seriously though, a good comp with an eq section coupled with some drums with enough body behind can do the job easily. However, if you don't have the kick, you can't have the fatness.

TL Audio took over all the Hhb outboard gear. Everything is white instead of purple with the name Ivory. Should be HOT!!

Michael-

IMO - Compression is the single most important technique to know when you produce. Once you understand - you'll never make a comment like the above^^^.

if you understood compression, you'd realize that it makes no sense to post compression settings. they're different for every sound and every song.

HI-PASS FILTER ON THE KICK DRUM. ELIMINATES MUDDINESS IN THE MIX AND ADDS SOME KNOCK KNOCK ON THE SOUTHSIDE AKA LOW-END.
