How to Autochop on the MPC500

The problem is autochop does its chopping by analyzing waveforms. This isn't really the same thing.

seems to be a very quick way to chop on the 500. but what if u want to be precise? can u edit the slices' start/end points once they're chopped that way?

Whow, that dude must be on coke or something LOL. I have been doing this since i got this unit, i thought that everybody knew this trick, sorry.

there's two ways to adjust the chops, first by adjusting the 'VELOCITY>START' (0-100 the higher u set this, the bigger your chops will be) and second, by adjusting the start point of the entire sample in TRIM mode. unfortunately there's no way to adjust each chops start/end point manually. this isn't really the same thing as autochop as bedouin said but rather a cheap alternative like buying hookers off the street instead of a strip club or a massage parlor. but i've still made plenty of beats using this method.

The "velocity sample start" is not an linear function, so it's not werry usefull. It can be used for glitch/drum'n'base though.

It would be more serious if you take a one bar sample, go into trimmode and take the trim end minus the trim start. Then divide this result by 16, and chop the sample into 16 bits.

b. What this actuall does for your samples
