Hey all, looking for some help on my first Mic purchase. Looking for something that's versatile enough for Clarinet, Acoustic Guitar/Bass and hand percussion. I've got phantom power from a mixer but want to add a pre-amp to the whole picture.

I've been doing some research but nothing like cats who are working it right now. i'm looking for a smaller investment, here's my research list.

My intial thought was the CAD M179 and the DBX mini-pre. Any thoughts?
Thanks much.

I have the Penta. It's a great compressor, but if you're just looking for a mic pre, with some compression i'd get the Focusrite Trackmaster instead. It has some eq too.

thanks for the tip, i thought the penta had some great value attached since it's got the mic pre but i've seen some trackmaster packages at sweetwater i'll take another look at.

i think it's a little higher than i can put into gear but i don't like rebuying so i wanna do it right the first time>might be worth waiting...there's an ART digital preamp that's pretty tasty too for the $700 or so.
