copying from scsi-device to another.

I tried to use search but didn't find anything related to this.

So I got myself an MPC 2000xl with external cd-rom,zip and harddisk-drives. I got my samples on my PC and burned some of them to cd:s. Is there any way to "copy" ALL the samples and folders in the cd to the external harddisk on my MPC so I wouldn't need to use the CD:s all the time? I know I can make a program or a sequence and then save it to my HD but this is not the thing I want to do.

I also tried hooking up the HD straight to my PC, but I didn't find any scsi-drivers for my HD so it didn't work neither.

Is there anykind of "copy" function in MPC? to copy from scsi-device to another?

Hook your SCSI drives up to your PC, then use Translator Free (http://www.chickensys.com) to copy the files from one drive to the other.

Otherwise, using just the MPC, you can load the programs in from one drive and save them out to the other drive one program at a time. Time-consuming but possible.

I will try to hook up my HD to my PC and use that program as soon as I get home. As I said on my previous post I dont have any drivers for my scsi HD, but I assume that with "translator free" you dont need one? So it detects my scsi HD (and all other scsi-devices?) from scsi-port even if I didn't have any specific device-drivers?

That is correct. There are no special drivers needed for using SCSI drives with Windows. It's just that the Akai format is not understood by Windows, so your PC couldn't read or write the SCSI drives that are in that format.

Just a quick question - there are no specific drivers for your SCSI HD, but there ARE drivers for your SCSI card. You DO have those installed right?

I'm not sure what you mean by "special drivers". The SCSI cards we sell are Adaptec models and the drivers are built-in to Windows 2000 and XP. They auto-install the first time you boot your PC with the SCSI card installed.

Yes, I was. I'm sorry - I misread it. I thought you were addressing me but I see now that you were asking the original poster whether or not they had installed the proper driver for the SCSI adapter card.

No problem B. I used to have a Mytek or Buslogic or some kind of SCSI card a while back, and the drivers didn't automatically load, and of course the company had went out of business or been consumed by some other company, so if you didn't have the drivers on a disc somewhere, they weren't exactly easy to find. But I don't remember if that was W2K or NT4! Adaptec is good sh*t, but they were usually higher priced, though quality is *usually* worth the extra expense.

I have SCSI-port on my motherboard. Not "scsi-card". I assume that "SCSI/RAID HOST CONTROLLER"-drivers on my devices manager handles the traffic on the scsi-port? is this correct?

I dont see the device using translator free.

No, you'd need a dedicated SCSI adapter card in order to make it work. Something like the Adaptec AHA-2940, the AVA-2903B (both of which we sell for $10 each) or a Tekram. Most any SCSI card will work, as long as they don't use some proprietary driver. Of course, this means you'll need a desktop PC with a free PCI slot. If you have a laptop or notebook, you'd need something like the Adaptec 1480B Slim SCSI card.
