Using 1000 as a recorder

Is it possible to play your keyboard(roland xp-30) while using the mpc1k as a recorder? How do you hook it up, using midi cables or using the stereo out of the keyboard to the Rec in of the 1k. I know how to record samples, but I would like to play my chords and record in the 1k while watching the bars to make sure im on the right tempo.

Well, you can record your chords as MIDI or as AUDIO. If you want to quantize your notes (T.C. on the MPC) or make any changes after you record, then I suggest you hook them up with MIDI cables. If you just want to use your MPC as a pseudo-tape recorder, then you can just hook up your keyboard through audio only and record directly to the MPC as a sample. I find the best thing to do is both: first record using MIDI, then after you get it just right, sample it as audio and mute the MIDI track, so you don't have to worry about setting up the keyboard and saving patches, etc... But everyone here has their own method. You have to use what's best for you. My advice is to get both MIDI and audio cables, connect your keyboard to the MPC, and have at it.
