Conection question

Hello all....quick question...I have a MPC 1000 with the jjos (dont know if that really matters) and a digi 003 with pro tools 7LE. Can ANYONE please tell/show me how to hook the two together and get sound and visual on the pro tools screen when im making a beat? Im so confused and have been told two many different ways to go. So if you have this set up or something similar...can you please help?

On the digi... your l/r outs should connect to your speakers.

The l/r outs on your mpc should connect to ins 1/2 or whatever on the digi.

In pro tools set monitoring to On for inputs 1/2 or whatever you hooked into the digi.

I don't have pro tools, so I can't say for certain, but if you have all that set up it should work. If all else fails at least look through your documentation/help files for monitoring, you should be able to find what you're looking for.

Well I dont have my monitors hooked up yet..im using my headphones coming off my Digi 003, so i wouldnt be able to recored that way either?

if you have your MPC outs plugged into the 003 and your 003 plugged into your computer, and Pro Tools is running (which means the 003 is working correctly as PT wouldn't start if it wasn't) then your problem is that you don't know how to use Pro Tools

dunno how you can have such nice gear without the basic knowledge on how to hook shit up.

when I was learning about this stuff , it was explained to me with a good analogy.
just imagine signal like water , it FLOWS out of a device , into another , out again , into another and so on , like a cascade.

and if things aren't working , always trace "the flow" .
Also check for stupid mistakes like mute buttons , volumes , power switches
and " monitor on " - as already mentioned

good looking.....My main thing is pluging something in wrong and messing something up...im a car audio person and home stereo...this is all new to me but i know as soon as i get the basic understanding of it...im good...and yes..i know nothing about pro tools or the digi 003...like i said..i was bored and went to guitar center and brought the 003 iMac and some rokit 8's (already had the mpc and turntables) mic and building a studio in my basement..so im not just doing this till i get bored...my family is deep into music..i just want to learn more on how to make it. I thought by coming here i would get some useful help from ppl who's been there, i guess ppl can forget where they come from.

def read the pro tools manual , I'm sure it's a behemoth but it will speed things up in the long run and it'll save you from becoming frustrated and bitter..

If you have a 003 with protools you should use the 6 outs and have the midi connected.
Have the midi runin from the mpc out ( A or B) to the 003 in.
On the mpc press window then pad 9 to the midi screen, f2 then sync to what ever connection your gonna run out of.
You have to go to the mixer on the mpc and hit f2 , All the out are set to stereo as default. Seperate the drums how you see fit on 1,2,3,4. You know kick on 1, snare on 2 etc. I keep the melody on stereo to have more tracks.
Run quater inch outs from the 1,2,3 and 4 of the mpc into the ins on the digi.
Now I don't have the protools sittin in front of me but I believe you need to go to window and select midi settings or options and select the device ( which would be your mpc). Like I said its not infront of me so it might be in settings instead of window.
Then bring up your transpoter and disable the button with the cunductor on it( cant remember the name of the button). Click the mouse to the right of that where the bpm is located and put in the digits of the beat your workin on.
You might have to have the midi all connected before the digi can recognize it. But not sure. Now just hit rec and play on the digi and your mp should be right there with it. You might also have to mess with the count of the timeing on the digi. Should be located on the transport. Hope this helped out.

I only say this cause if your gonna be right infront of the protools while your makein beats you should get in the habbit of have everything hooked up and ran proper. It makes things much easier when its time to get down and do work.
