Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Since waveform chopping is not going to ever happen, they should just implement auto chop with a sensitivity setting. That's really the big thing I'd like to have; the other stuff would just be a bonus. I really don't think this would be too hard to implement.

The JJOS developer could really win a number of customers if he stepped up to the 500. I'd pay $40-50 just to get Chop Shop alone.

I would like the pan function to work on all layers like for instance when u go into program mode and your messin wit the velocity and pannig of a sound when u have layered sounds it would be a lot cooler to pan each individual sound thats layered on that one pad.Its setup like it can but when i pan one layer and then try to pan another to a diff. pan value the layers will have the same pan value. Also this is a huge one LIKE THIS IS GODZILLA HUGE LOL.THE ABILITY TO USE MORE EFFECTS IT WOULD BE COOL TO BE ABLE TO USE AT LEAST TWO EFFECTS TO EACH PAD IT WOULD MAKE THE MPC 500 A FUXXIN MONSTER BEAST NASTY SLUT WHORE THAT EVERYBODY WANTS TO TOUCH LOL IF U GET MY DRIFT THE MPC500 WILL BE VERY VALUABLE.

more efx would = less poly, i cant live with less personally, still you can always bounce your efx tracks down and reuse them, so essentially you can already do this.

++ changing pitch without changing tempo
++ being able to preview time stretching instead of having to create a whole new sample every time

Can already be done.

Yup, that would be really cool!

On the MPC? I must have missed something... save tuning the sample and then using time stretch to get it back where you want it, which can be imprecise and tedious, unless there's someway to figure out exactly how much of a change you need?

When come back, bring PIE!

Since the v. 1.31 is out this probably should be the 1.31+ Wish List now but since AKAI didn't really bring in any new features to the .31 the list is the same anyway..

This feature would be nice: In trim mode a setting which would make it possible to play a sample an adjustable amount of samplepoints before the endpoint. So that long samples would be alot easyer/faster to trim since you woudn't have to wait from the startpoint till the endpoint. I know you can set the startpoint close to the end point and so shorten the time you have to listen to it but this would mean that you'd have to write down your original start point to find it again fast. The workflow would improve alot with this feature if you could trigger it with one of the pads 1-8 after setting the value which could be 88200 (2sec) as default. It's really frustrating listening to a long sample the 20th time adjusting the end point. Makes you almost hate the whole sample before you even had the chance to integrate it into your beat.

Would be cool if someone could summarize this feature into a nice short phrase to fit neatly into the list, since i'm no native speaker.

All the other suggestions are just great! The thing i miss most is definately sequenceble trackmutes, trackvolume and direct recording. Chop Shop sounds like utopia to me but i can't help looking at the little display and thinking "Waveforms.. Why not?"..

Ps.: eimer I know pitch-shifting is possible and i actually use your chart alot but it's all about mathematical formulas and values and i would be suprised if the hardware couldn't be able to solve those, so that there would be a menupoint in trim called pitch shift, you adust the pitch and the OS does the rest. All a matter of workflow. Why go from A to B through C?

just a question, whats this direct record feature? does it have to go with recording into the mpc or out of the mpc?

In trimmode when you chop your samples, i would like an option to only cut in zero crossing spots. Would be alot easier to loop waveforms and such.

I think it would be cool if you didn't have to know the original BPM of a loop when time-stretching. From what I get you'll always have to know the BPM or you'll only be able to stretch by percentage, which isn't of much use when you have to meet a certain target tempo.
Given that you have a perfectly looped beat it would be enough to give the MPC the number of beats and bars for it to calculate the original BPM. This would be similar as it happens in Recycle.
I think it would be a neat feature that could make working with loops a lot easyer.

.:Josie K:.

Yeah that would be wery neat! It would make the workflow alot easier!
