worst experience getting repairs

so i was being really clever and fried one of my 1200s

took it to the repairer about 2 months back and he's still pissing around, now he tells me its going to be another 3-4 weeks for another part.
On top of that, he wants to charge me $300, nearly what i paid for the freakin thing!! I should have just sold it as parts!
extremely frustrating stuff!

Any other repairer horror stories out there?

Sony C800G microphone. Had to ship it to Japan for 6 months to get it fixed.

Denon 3500 cd deck.

Had this problem where it would keep pitching up the sound as soon as the cd would start. Almost impossible to get it to play a cd at normal speed.

Took it in for repairs...same problem when I got it back.

Found out on the Denon forums that many people had the exact issue and it was a design flaw that Denon refused to acknowledge. Many people had repairs and even replaced units...the problem would eventually arise again.

The 3500 is Denons xbox 360, basically.

I made a good case with the store I got it from, and exchanged it for a CDJ-800. It's been about 2 years, and I haven't had a single problem with it. A lot less cool features, and not as good sound imo as the denons, not as fun either, but the quality and ruggedness of the cdj is awesome.

DA 88 that needed to go back to TEAC for repair......

had to run all session with 8 tracks or rent a second one per session for about 2-3 months

I took 2 1200 apart to make 1 working one, and cannot put it back together.. It has been 6 months..... And about 18 tries.... I'll figure it out one day.

My Roland XP-60 went to trippin onece back in the day. I took it to the repair shop and they said it would be 400 to repair because it was one of the main boards that had to be replaced. I told them "forget it" and while on my way to pick it up, they call me and say "we figured it out... it was an easy fix... 80 bucks". Them suckas were tryin' to get me!

Not me, but a friend bought a cd-recorder in a pawn shop (spent about $175).. took it home and it died on him about a month later. He took it the a repair shop and they charged him $150 to repair it. They took forever to complete the job, and when he got it back home, it worked, but now it took forever to load..kept reading the disk for a LOOOOONG time, like 15-20 minutes! The shop told him, "that wasn't the issue you bought it in for" so that another fee, $75/hour to diagnose, and parts (approx another $150). He doesn't use the cd-recorder anymore.
The bad/funny/funked up news is that his main purpose of purchasing the used cd-recorder was because he didn't want to spend $300 on a new one.

I had a pma-500 for repair once. When it came back a cord hang out of the bottom of the unit. I took i apart to put it back in and saw the worst ever soldering mess!!! Damm was i pissed!

Repair on my MPC2000XL.
I'm not going to say who worked on it since the MPC-Forums are sponsered by them...
But I troubleshot the problems down to the exact resistor and the pad sensor sheet. I sent them the list of what I did to find the problem and what parts needed to be replaced . Them fools still charged me for labor for troubleshooting the problem.
$189 + shipping, I got my 2000XL back in working order.

Bought a Stanton SA-12 for 1500$ and waited for 1,5 month to arrive, only to find out when delivered that the FX unit was broken. Sent it back to US and got it back after 2 months.

Overall, 3,5 months without my new mixer which I spent a shitload of money to get it and only got back 350$ when sold it second hand.

The Denon DNS-3500 is Denon's MPC 1000.

well some good news(ish)
i kicked up a fuss on the phone and now they're taking a good chunk out of the price
sometimes it pays to be an ****!
