not every black 1000's have the new pads...

My bad forum. I just realized that I could only pull the corners of the corner pads out of the faceplate, but in fact they are all connected. I apoligize for the confusion.

No worries. I'm just relieved I have the new pads and don't have to be messing about with an 'upgrade'.

i just checked my BK model
I haven't opened up the unit but when I move any one of the pads the surrounding pads also move slightly.
Can i presume then that the pads are connected together and therefore I have the new pads?

To make this clear.

If several, or all pads move when pulling/pushing a single pad from side to side then you do have the good pads.


If no pads move when pulling/pushing a single pad from side to side then you have the poorly designed pads.

i got the new pads even if i only have the BK model!

For those of you in Japan (and everywhere else I assume)....

If you order a BK-N (as I did) you will get the new pad design according to the shop I ordered from. The straight BKs are a gamble - some do, some don't. The guy I spoke to contacted an Akai rep and was told this.

The one I bought over here in Japan came in box which had BK-N written on the side.
It has a black rear panel, the new pads, EXM128 included, and a 128meg CF card with a heap of sounds for about $960.
