I just got my mpc 2500 a couple days ago.I have my turntable connected to my 003 so i can edit what i want to sample in pro tools and i make it a loop in pro tools. When i transfer the loop to my mpc the samples almost never fit the amount of bars i set 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 what ever the amount of bars may be. How do i make my samples loop in the mpc without them over lapping, or being too short or too long ect.ect......?????

yeah but will that make it fit into what ever amount of bars the sample is close to? or do i have to cut my samples in pro tools to fit the bars in the mpc?

I thought you looped it cleanly in PT already? Then just set the right tempo on the MPC...where's the problem?

Use the Tap Tempo & your ears man, or go into the sample edit window and shorten the length if it's too long. MPC can match any sample if it's cut right and your skilled enough with swing, timing, & time signatures...

There's also a lot of variables in PT to think about. And I think that's more so where the problem lies.
Such as when you say "make it a loop in PT" what process are you using...Are you just setting loop points and have the transport set to loop, or are you trimming the actual sample accordingly to where it naturally loops.....
Also, is the tempo in PT set to the tempo of the sample, or are you just leaving the tempo in PT at 120bpm?
As well, how are you exporting the sample from PT? Dragging & dropping? or Bouncing/Rendering or Saving a copy of the recorded sample. I know that in Logic if you "save a copy" of the file it saves the entire thing, but if you "save selection as" it saves only the chosen portion of the sample.
All of these can make a huge difference to your workflow. Seems like it would be easier for you to just sample into the MPC and make it loop there.

...cheers... :?

its really not pro tools thats the problem. I just chop the sample to where it naturally loops. yes, i do leave it at 120bpm in pt. once i'm done chopping my sample i bounce to disk. then load up the mpc to my mac and drop it in there. Thats really not the issue. i just want to get the sample to loop in the mpc just like i did in pt. HOw exactly do i use tap tempo??? and if i trim it in the trim program won't that just make it not loop anymore since i need all the parts of the sample inorder to make it loop?

thanx

to make something loop it has to be the same tempo as what is was as the original. lol i can be wrong, but i remeber i had a loop in fl studio once and if u played it it didnt loop, i just ajusted the tempo until it worked.

I get the tempo has to be the same as the original sample. But what amount of bars will it fit into....will it fit evenly with in a certain amount of bars if i try different amounts?

when you chop it in pro tools, (say you want the sample at 95 bpm when you load it into the mpc) change the tempo from 120 to 95 then go to GRID mode(not SLIP) and use the TCE (Time compression/expansion) TRIMMER and drag the end of the sample to the end of bar one(or however many bars you want it to be) and it will automatically adjust your sample without affecting the timing. Works every time.

IMPORTANT you must be in GRID mode for it to fill the bars clean if you get what im saying

if your not sure where your TCE trimmer tool is, right click your mouse on your trimmer tool and it will bring up the option to change it to a TCE trimmer. Remember, if you want to trim normally again you have to change it back the same way.

Makes sampling WAY easier than on the MPC, sometimes i think i should have bought an MPD for use with pro tools :(

i believe you are talking about time stretching, and I don't think the mpc has time stretching like acid, protools, ableton live. but I don't have a 2500 i have a 1000 so please double check that, if it doesn't have time stretching then you have to chop it in to equal parts inside the mpc after you import it, try 8 or 16 slices, then you have to trigger/record each slice into your mpc sequencer.

Maybe I'm a little confused but, Why would'nt you just sample with the MPC from the get go. Just a thought!

Ooook...

If you're recording your loop/sample into pro tools, don't do your chops in PT, you need to find the tempo. Use Beat Detective to find the tempo of your sample. (for ease of finding the tempo try to get a 2, 4 or 8 bar loop as your sample.)

After using Beat Detective (if you don't know how, look it up elsewhere. If you own PT, you should know how to use it) write down/remember the tempo. Bounce To Disk. Hook MPC up to your Mac, transfer the file onto your MPC, load it yada yada.

Then when your sample is selected in the MPC, go to trim mode and select to cut it up. You can use the chop shop or equally slice it into a certain amount of chops. I usually do 16 equal cuts for ease. Then you can go in and edit your slices if you want. Make a program out of it and then adjust the tempo in your MPC to the one Beat Detective gave you and you should be on your way. Your sample should be chopped over your 16 pads for you to play straight through or flip. Then you can make small adjustmets to your tempo if needed.

Bottom line, used beat detective.
