can a 2000XL "eat" internal zip DRIVES? (not disks, drives!)

hey folks, this is probably aimed at any techs, or akai reps in here, but i have a 2000xl that had a internal 100mb zip drive die this week, courtesy of the TSA. (clicking like it couldnt hold the disks door open). problem is, i bought a replacement, dropped it in, and it did basically the SAME THING upon first booting. different kind of clicking, but it wouldnt properly eject disk, wouldnt read disk, didnt work.

is there something in the unit that could be causing this, or did i just get really unlucky and purchase a non-working internal drive here? thanks for any leads here.

It was either corrupted files on the disk themselves or both drives were bad.
I doubt the mpc will "command" each drive to "eat" the disks.

Keeping your Zip disks in a magnatized metal box isn't a good idea either. :D

backwards ribbon cable would make the light(s) on the drive light up and stay that way, AND the drive will not work at all.

If the lights are constantly on when you turn on your mpc then the ribbon cable is backwards.

Most ribbons are keyed so this can't happen, older ribbons are not keyed.
