Got my 60....

hit my door on Friday.

I sold my 2000xl and got myself a 60, and what a good move it was. The thing had a few issues when it arrived. One it should have came with scsi, but it didnt...****. It was pretty dirty inside out. If i had it on full level, it would trigger sounds on its own,...buttons stuck...So I cracked it open cleaned everything, even soaked all the buttons in alcohol for awhile to make em white again. Cleaned under the pads (the pads had yellow tar inbetween them...**** gross). Regardless it works great, looks new. and sound just like I hoped.

Thanks alot guys for your input on the 60. You guys we re exactly right. this thing makes up for all the little flaws I found in my 2000xl.

While were on the topic...........I'm about to cop a 60 with the upgrade and no scsi. Just wondering from all you 60 users out there how you deal with using just floppies. Bear in mind that I'll just be using the 60 for drums(sometimes) and sequencing. My Asr-10 will continue to be my sampler and keyboard of choice. Let me know how much one can save on a single floppy be it a drum kit or sequence file. All in all please let me know how you all work around this. Feedback would be much appreciated................................................J

smoke crack --> Each floppy can hold 793 KB worth of files. So you can probaby use one floppy per song if you're only using the 60 for drums and sequencing (Kicks, Snares, HiHats, Program File + Sequence, Song Files most likely won't exceed 793 KB).

I fill up my sound memory, make sure you have that expanded, 26.2 seconds available in the sound > sample screen. If not, plan on spending the 100 bucks for it. Better to get it now while it is still available than later when it may be harder to find and MORE expensive.

I used floppies only for a year and a half or so, it's not that bad. Most banks were on tweo floppies, sometimes 3 for sequences and such. Label them, and get a pack of 100 DD floppies and you should be good for a while.format them in the MPC always before starting, as formatting them can erase the sound memory or sequence memory IIRC.

The SCSI option is really dope though, once you get into it, get it if you need the storage space.

i wouldnt ever buy a 60 without scsi ram and os, in the end it would probably end up being in the price range of a mpc3k.

Honestly one thing I have come to appreciate on my 60 after using a 2000 and a 3000 is how the controlls are laid out. Everything has its space, nothing is cramped, no reachin for what you need (except the power switch!!) The 2000 seems real dumb having the arrows below the wheel and a bunch of other shit makes your arms cross in funny ways.

Might be the same price range as a 3000, but the bottom of the 3000 price range!! MPC's with OS & SCSI go for about a G, good luck finding a 3000 for that.

I bought my MPC60 with OS3.10 installed, but no SCSI. I'm doing alright without scsi at the moment, but am seriously contemplating getting it put in. I use zip for everything else in my studio, and it makes a great difference, so i'll probably go for it v. soon - especially considering the above advice.

people better recognize, the 60 is legendary. I'd dive, take a bullet for it. If you have never played with the 60, I suggest you do.

Appreciate the feedback.......This 60 I'm copping got the expanded memory. I mean eventually I'll get this scsi upgrade but for now I'm just gonna 88 it. Simplicity and ease of use means so much more to me. El Macaco, I feel yoou about the layout of the 60. I like the pads on the left and all controls on the right. All seems alot more natural. Im loving this machine. The ARM rest is amazing haha. Everything said about this machine is true, its great, and i dont have the OS yet or scsi. I never use the scsi on my ASR-10, I kinda like the idea of floppies they keep me organized. Im going to buy the OS and scsi upgrade for my 60 tho asap.
I paid 850 us for this unit, and Im super happy with it. My ASR and it are getting along just fine.

Dats whasup. I'm glad more peeps are getting the feel of the 60, it's like a fine wine, except I hate wine, always makes me sleepy. Not the 60 tho!!

I bought one the other day. Never had so much fun programin!. Piece of piss, I've put all my Battery studio samples into it for some 12-bit can of whoopass. The high-hat lever is just the dogs bollox. Its waaaaay more bitchin than **** around on 3 different pads and freez up pads. Best bit of hardware Ive ever bought.
