Newbie to MPC 2000XL, please help !!!

What's everyone, I am kinda new to the having a mpc, mainly the 2000Xl, and i am about to get it this week from a trade. My questions are mainly, what are some things that I should look into upgrading on it, casue the only thing I know so far is thecf reader from a floppy disc reader, and I am having a hard time finding one thati s now so exspensive, and i think the memory, 32mb right? can anyone give me some tips/advice/links trhat will lead me in the right direcrtio, if so, please help if you don't mind. Some upgrades for the 2000xl would include:

The 8 outs card.
The effects card.
smpte.
ram , of course.
and perhaps the mfc-42 analog filter module.

I have all of these but to be honest , you might not even use all of these.
Get your mpc and learn your way around it.
See what your style is and your demands and then pick up what YOU feel you need.
Like I said , I have the effects , 8 outs , ram , etc and the only ones I use everytime is the ram, of course and the mfc-42.
Don't get me wrong , I use the 8-outs too but if the money is tight , you might wanna grab the ram and then the effects card. I don't use it a whole lot but I know others that do and they outnumber me.
Plus , I've seen them pretty cheap in our "gear for sale " section.
Now , if you've used an MPC before , disregard my comments.
If you have not , welcome to the fam and don't leave the door open at night.

By the way , I did not mention the card reader because you already did.
You are right too. Them damn things are priced way too high.
I don't have one either and I aint getting one until I see a decent price.

See I am trading my Roland SP 606 for because honestly I am not feeling it, and I havent a long time and havent been able to find any usefl info on it like the MPC .Also, I did a search on Ebay and was wondering if any of these were the same thing or could be modded or something to use with the MPC ?

From what I can see , those are all usb and the mpc won't use that.
People here have used the microtechs and intermarts along with a few others.
I don't know all the model numbers , etc.
We need a damn sticky that tells all the known models of card readers that are able to work with each mpc , where to get em and how to install em.
That way , nobody ever has to ask again.
And nobody has to tell anyone to do a damn search.
I am amazed that this has not been done already.
This place has many benefits and when I was here all the time , back in the day , the very first benefit and greatest , to me at least , was the fact that we all looked out for each other.
Info is still shared here but it does not seem like it used to.
We need to organize a few things better.
Anyway man , I'm looking for the internal card reader too and I aint paying no crazy amount. If and when I find one for a good price , I'll holla at you with the info.

The only reason I did not buy it is because it is not hot swappable.
If you don't know what that means , it means I have would have to turn off the mpc each time I want to change the card.
To be honest , with all the difficulty finding a card reader , I may go for this one if I dont see any others in the next few weeks.
Then I will still need one for my mpc 3000.

Thx and you are right they should make a sticky on here for that casue 125 is too exspensive for something that is dated tech but I am not knocking though. Aren't those last two the same thing?
I am no expert on this but what I do know is that it can't be a usb connection.
I believe it has to be ide / atapi .
Someone who knows a lot more than me would have to tell us both.
I never had a card reader so I don't know.
There are only certain ones that I am sure of and those are not them.

Not to be a jerk but the only way I could say whether or not I think it's a good or fair trade would be if you told me what you were giving them in this trade. If it's a Condo in Manhattan , you might want to reconsider. What are you giving them in this trade?
As far as checking out that MPC to make sure it's right , I would say check the basics.
See if the screen looks right , any lines , dark screen , etc .
Sample something into the mpc and listen for clarity.
Some people have "popping" sounds at their connections.
Assign that sample or a few samples to some pads and just make a quick beat.
Just mess with it and see if everything functions the way it should.
If you have a few days before you pick it up , go download the manual and read through it so you will know how to do a few things when it's in your face.

This is probably the best place online to get info on the 2000 and 2000xl.
I believe the 2000 line is the most popular one here and we have been here for YEARS.
If you have the time , go back to the first pages and read from there.
A whole lot of stuff has been covered and you will learn more tips and tricks from there than any one of us could show you. If you have a specific question , feel free to ask me or anyone but for just getting a load of info fast , nothing beats reading the old pages for yourself.
