so after using ableton for a while i started messing with guru a bit and once i found myself using that almost exclusively i figured i'd be better just getting my mpc.... one thing i miss about guru:

there was an option to auto-tune your sample to fit the length of your sequence (or one bar of it... can't remember which.) it was fantastic. you could instantly have your loop in step with your tempo if it were cut right (though not pitch-shifted)

does anyone have a simple trick to get this done on the 1k? would this be a useful feature request for jj2? (i'm thinking it would take VERY minimal code)

theres currently nothing like that, no.

the easiest way to get the same effect would be to set up a track with pad a1 on the first beat - load that up and assign you sample to that pad - then change the pitch accordingly to the bpm.

for what you want to work, jjos would have to be told how many bars long the loop is and it would have to know how much to strech/pitch to make it match to the bpm - would that really require very little code?

this is probably not going to happen in pad-assignable samples, but it is a fantastic feature for working with actual audio pieces instead of oneshots.

i could see it working with AUDIO TRACKS.

my reason why it probably ain't gonna happen in pad-assignable samples is because this would either have to be accomplished by QNOTE ON or QREAL data.

in audio track mode, i could see this being incredibly useful.

often i treat my larger segment samples in Reaper, wave warping them to sit a little more perfectly inside a grid, and then import them into the mpc to use as audio tracks.

thanks for the input ya'll.

the thing with this (and i was thinking it would maybe be a trim mode thing...) was that it would assume that the sample was as long as the sequence automatically. so implementing it would be a matter of determining the length (in time) of the seq based on the bpm, the length (time again) of the sample and then just tuning that sample up or down until its length (in time) matched that of the bpm. just a little math really. [which is why i would assume it'd take very little code since sample time is an equation of actual audio samples based on 44.1 and seq time is an equation of bpm] it was so useful to do that with the push of a button. b/c then you could pitch-shift up and down based on the end result of the the sample auto-tune.

then again, there's always the ti-86 which hasn't been touched since college...

I'd suggest you save the webpage ("web page, complete" in firefox). This way it saves all the javascript so the equations still work when you use the local copy.
Very useful tool.

well I disagree mate
What is a purpose to use MPC ?
beatbox...
any time you ask for a nice horns I will send you to a local music store to buy a trumpet, mic, pre, a/d converter and a book to learn trumpet...:)

+1 for idea of implementing it in JJOS
my opinion this option, plus full ( or even half...) midi implementation and HD/Cf card read during sequencer running are most important improvements ( could be;)

it goes without saying that i'm with you. i send jj an email referring him to this topic. i suppose we'll have to see what happens. haven't heard anything back yet.
