MPC 2500 or Softs (really need help)

Hey guys, I make beats on Cubase Sx3, i use Battery3 with samples for my drums, Motif rack es and vsti. I have a very good computer + a RME Fireface 800 in soundcard. I'm asking me if it could be good to buy a MPC 1000 or 2500 for sequence my drums, we said me the same samples sound better, more tight and more groovy on a MPC 2500 than a Computer + a very good sound card like the RME because the time and quantize of the MPC is different. I saw a video of JR Rotem who uses the MPC 2500 just for his drums. Is it true the sound and groove is better on the MPC than PC? I really need ur help. Thx so much.

Personally I hate making beats on a computer - tried it for a while but did not like it.


Nothing beats hardware homie, to its like telling a guitarist to play a guitar on a pc or a real drummer to sell his kits and get a
PC with midi drum pads. lol


in your case since you are already a PC dude, then stay with it.

I think we can do great things on MPC and PC. I'm a pro pianist and keyboard player and sorry to say that Firework but a digital keyboard like the Motif gives you other possibilities for the piano sound than a piano can't do, even for a classical sound like the full grand or bright grand on the motif. It gives another color and it sounds better for songs and sometimes it's a real piano who sound better. I won't say the hardware is better, it's just another color. Of course if u say me a real Moog and a moog software, it's not the same, I prefer hardware synths than the great Arturia or others software. But it's not the same price lol. U say Guitar, Drums but it's real instrument made with woods......the MPC it's a computer, it has an OS, convertors........But I think it has a different Feeling than a PC, it's like a piano on the Yamaha and roland, both are Grand piano but it sounds different and both are great. If people have experience of both worlds (MPC and PC), give your opinion please.

I'm a old head now, but during that jack rabbit era when Akai released the MPC 60, I desperately wanted one so bad that I couldn't help myself.

I almost jumped on the LE version of the 3k when it was released as well. But what really caught my eye was the ability to intergrate both MPC & PC together to maximize or benefit from the two, and that's when I jumped on the 4k.

I really didn't get it for the use of another sampler, I got it for covering my drums needs. I already had been using a Roland R-8, but wanted something better IMO to bring those realistic driving drum sounds I've been after. I now find myself using it for both sound sources & midi controller.

But a lot of katz don't realize that they can use their MPC's to control their vsti's. Depending on your soundcard, the reliability of it's drivers, and how low the buffers can be tailored, there should be some pleasing results from using such a setup.

I know I enjoy the workflow that comes with intergrating both technologies, which IMO, helps the creative process tremendously.

Thx a lot Dabmeister for ur explications. U say we can control Vstis with a MPC, is it possible to do that with a MPC 2500 and a Fireface 800 RME. It's a great soundcard so i think it's possible technically. How do u connect Ur MPC for control that? Do u know if it's possible to connect a midi keyboard to the MPC 2500, play Vstis sounds on the keyboard and record the sounds directly in the MPC. Thx for ur explication.

In a case scenario like what you've discribed, you don't need to connect the MPC using midi in order to sample vsti's. You can just connect the audio outs from your soundcard going to your MPC.

The MPC will act as a thru for the audio, thus allowing you to capture whatever you want. But if you want to trigger what you've sampled from an external keyboard, then yes you'll need to have the MPC connected via midi.
