this is a story of a man and his records.

Paul Mawhinney owns the largest collection of vinyl LPs and 45s in the world. Because of the digital music frenzy and the dwindling interest in physical music formats, Paul was forced to close his record shop. Now facing diabetes and rising health costs, he's put up his entire collection for sale.

According to what I've heard from people who have been there it's a LOT of crap. He's got like 10 or 15 copies of a lot of turds and shitty ass records. :(

For sure. I'm not doubting the fact that there will be some good records in there. But it's probably only like 10%. The rest is mostly shit. He probably has thousands of 78rpm's and Exotica garbage. He tried selling this on ebay twice and was looking for like 3 million or more but no one bought it based in part on this fact. The other reason he wasn't able to sell it is because he insisted on the collection being kept together. However, I don't know how he intended on enforcing that. ???

i just really hope this collection goes to a good home, like the smithsonian or something. i shudder at the thought of someone totally unappreciative buying this collection simply to let the records rot in a private warehouse. there's a lot of snobby rich people who buy up priceless works of art simply to claim that they own them and to horde away from the public somewhere in a closet so that they never see the light of day.

there has to be a lot of rare stuff in this collection though.

When this information is coming from someone like Mr Supreme from Seattle I tend to believe it.

Trust me I have my own personal tastes but Mr Supreme is one of the most knowledgeable diggers in the world. I trust his taste and knowledge. However if you're in to Exotica and 50's & 60's turds go ahead and get in touch with this "Collector". Not to mention the fcat that he represents every single aspect of a record dealer that I can't stand. He's emotionally attached to his records which makes him pron to over value it as well as over hype it as to it's true qualities. I'm just saying that there's a reason he's been unsuccessful in all this sale and it's partially due to the fcat that the product isn't half as good as he thinks it is. I could manage to collect a copy of each record that comes my way and accumulate thousands of horrible records. If there were a way to go in there and just strip his collection and keep the good stufff you'd be set for awhile however he's clearly stated time and time again that he's not interested in that and you'd have to buy ALL that crap to get those good ones. No thanks.

theres many dealers out there that want to sell the hole lot not just one or two records ,thats part of the game of buy records sometimes you just have to know how to get rid of the ones that you dont want. these days theres not alot of records that will buy them or even sell records....japan is the place to be fofr records they make many trips here to the US to buy records to take back there to sell....i have met many delaers from over there.

i know how to buy records, i dont just buy for the breaks and samples, i buy for the music buying for breaks and samples is a plus if it's on the record
