tight high hats

I've been trying to get my highhats tight. I,ve tried taping them out right, and they dont sound perfect and I,ve tried alot, I've tried multiple layers(2or 3 different sounds on one pad one sound detuned) and that sonds alitle better, but the best results I've got so far, is playing the note repeat button and diferrent sounds . but theres got to be a better way to get tighter hats.


If any body could drop some thoughts on this thatd be dope!

Try the high pass filter in addition maybe?

Or an envelope filter ,post production.

What about SIMULT, have you tried that??

ya ya, that high pass ish worked, alot crisper, that with really thought out note repeat,with alot of different time sigs got it alot closer. But what's this simult? or what ever! AND I NEED HELP GETTIN THIS SIH ON HERE! 4 U 2 HER! help with that woul bcool.

yo, double the hat sound on a pad then lay it down as tight as possible using your rhythm, then corect any mistakes in the grid edit, try a high pass like dude say too your shit will be on point

after you double turn one or both of the hats down a little to make the sound fat

Tight -meaning natural and organic sounding - Hihats are the result of swing and velocity (besides the fact, taht you need a good sample).
I usually do it like this: I put the swing and shift settings on the Q-Link faders. Then I take a HiHat, set up the time signatture - usually 8th notes, hold Note Repeat, hit the Pad to which the hi hat is aassignet to and listen to the way the it plays. Next, I vary the swing and/or shift setting via q-link until it feels good to me. Then I record that. Now you can turn full level of before you do it, to vary the velocity during the recording of the hats with the pad pressure. This is a little unprecise, but it definately has a human touch to it. Anyways, You can still adjust the velocity levels for each event later in Grid edit, to straighten it out. In OS 2, you can use the new Portamento Editor to do all this too, but I am used to do it like this.

portamento just glides the pitch at an assignable rate in between notes, i dont think it will have any effect on a hihat pattern that consists of notes at the same pitch.
