No, but one can be added. There's a blocked out space on the front of the unit that's suited just for that.

Or instead of using compact flash, you can just use a USB Jump Drive, plugged into the front USB port..

Yep yep, I find myself using this as a nifty backup. I think my stake in these usb flash drives will grow two fold, especially with them hovering around the 32 gig threshhold now.

got a couple 2.5 inch 20 to 60 gig harddrives that work perfect with my 4k
also got one bigger one (250 gig) that also works with the 4k.

are you using passport style drives (the ones powered by the usb port) ??

I'm not a bit surprised that a multitude of data saving devices work with the 4k. It is/was however built around an Intel processor and has many many features taken from a PC.

So having these capabilities only puts stock it that much more.

The fact that the 4k does so much useful stuff that other companies would kill to have there os do makes it all the sadder the os is still not being worked on and the hardware still not in production.

The way it still interfaces with any pc or macos is amazing.
shame its all gone to the backburner.

which is why you must send letters to JJ begging him to create an OS for the 4k. Even tell him how much money you'd be willing to pay for it!

That's not going to help any... They don't' have the source code. You need to email the English team that created
the 4k's OS and beg them. They wanted to do an update but Akai wouldn't let them, and they'll probably won't
do it, due to not wanting to get into the legal quagmire of using another company's OS source code to create your
new OS from. Of course, they have enough knowledge to completely write it from scratch, but I'm guessing they
don't think it will be profitable enough to justify the effort.

There are a LOT less 4k's then there are 1000's out there....

just writing a kernel for that machine would take months with a small team of people.
