-12 db or 0 db setting on mpc...

i know i've seen it mentioned on here but couldn't find anything thru search. just wondering why i would consider one or the other to work with. right now it's on -12db for me.

Stick with the 0db and work out the rest when tracking to your daw!

It's whatever you're comfortable with. I personally have mine set @ -6dB. It never bothered me to use it at that level since I don't max the volume out on it anyway.

It's in the global section for me. The very first heading..."Master Level".

OK i got you it's in the mixer mode of XL i dont use that mine is set to 0DB i use the volume in the params in teh sample edit screen i sdet it to 200 it's individiual setting fro each sound...i dont know i guess it depends on your samples if they are not the same level .

i could be wrong tho,it may be different if you have a eb16 or a efx card for your mpc...i dont have it so i dont use it , at least i havent had to use it yet, i use the other features i the section tho.

Yup yup

I keep mine at 0 just to prevent any distortion. If I need more bump, I just crank the master volume.

I use 0 to +6. I use +6 when I am doing something that needs alittle more ummphh.

-12 or -6, I adjust the actual samples volume, rather than using the MPC mixer channels volumes, then I make up the gain on my desk.

i do not understand the use of this function? is it for if your using hardware multitrak recorders? cuz wen recording into a daw u can just use the master volume on the mpc to boost it.

12 db is the difference between +4dbu (pro audio gear) and -10dBv (consumer audio gear). It's actually a bit less.
6 dB is the difference between a balanced and an unbalanced connection. Basically when you have a balanced out - balanced cable - balanced in the signal will be 6dB louder than if you would use an unbalanced line.
So this setting has to do with optimizing the gain structure in your signal chain.

If for example your using a CD recorder to track from which operates at -10 dBV SOL (Standard Operating Level) the 0 value on the CD Recorder will have a value of 1 Volt. So when the MPC is cranked to the max it (in theory) it couldn´t clip the CD rcorders input. If it´s set to the correct setting (which for use with a consumer audio recorder should be set to 0)


another example the DPS 16 can take an maximum input of +19dBu . The MPC can produce a maximum of +17dBu (whilst the +12db option is enabled) this will give you a better signal to noise ratio, better level to record cause you won´t need much gain boost from the DPS 16.
So when you are using a DI Box to go into the DPS 16 this would in practice overload the input because you would produce a +23dBu, in this case you would enable the +6dB option to preserve signal to noise ratio (becuase in most cases it´s better to have a HOT Output and LOW Input other than a LOW output and a High Input, this will only introduce more noise)

All this is done to preserve a maximum signal to noise ratio... It´s very handy that this option is included
