I don't geddit?? Can someone tell me what the purpose of audio tracks are? How and why would I use them? I'm struggling with some of the translation on the jjos2 manuals

thanks

"live" non-midi triggered audio tracks
good for bouncing down a busy drum track to preserve polyphony
also good for a convenient way to use larger nonchopped samples

i'm still not sure why you would use an audio track rather than just placing a sample at the start of a track, like you would with say a loop

does it work this way: the mpc fires midi data to a module. the output of the module is then recorded as an audio track? meaning its an easy way to play live without taking half your studio with you? maybe i'm missing the point.

if what i have said above is correct, it would be nice if the ausio track could then be automatically chopped into individual sounds (like patched phrase) to allow a bit more modification of a pattern

because this is midi triggered. say you place a long sample at 1.1.00, but start playback at 2.1.00. that long sample will not play because you missed the midi note.

audio tracks will keep playing regardless.

audio tracks are not about chopping or reprogramming, they're about catching a recording as is and playing as a constant back.
