marek, so are you saying it's a good idea to record the mpc into a daw at +12 db? for the sake of signal/noise ratio?

Yes, if that won't distort the stereo output.

Master Level:
To set the overall level of the MPC2000XL.
The MPC2000XL can generate up to 32 sounds at one time. Therefore, there is a large difference
in the output level when only one or many sounds are generated. If you play a lot of sounds at the
same time, the level may be too high and the sound will be distorted. You can prevent distortion
by lowering the Master Level. If you are not playing a lot of sounds at the same time, increase the
level to cover noise.

Of course this feature doesn't apply to some of us who have the 8 outputs and use that to track from.

when tracking out your beats.. what volume do you guys track

im really new to tracking out, but i notice like the dynamics of my sound change alot.. i notice in my daw when the levels get close to bearly just bearly touching the red they change in and out so i was wondering

what volume do u guys track out at ..

I may be using mine wrong but I use the output level as a master control for my spdif(digital) output....

I have the Main Volume all the way up and the input gain on the audio interface to my computer all the way up for the channel MPC comes in. With the master level at -6db, everything sounds too weak at normal listening volume. But with 0db, there's often a bit of unpleasant distortion, even on default factory sequences, which one would think shouldn't distort. I guess I'll turn down the gain on my audio interface a bit or put a mixer in between the MPC and the audio interface which I was going to do anyway.
