Thinking about getting a 2500! Worth it?

I've had my 2000XL for like 6 years now I think. I love it but for some reason, I am extremly drawn to the 2500 (even over the 4000 and 5000). You guys think the upgrade is worth it? I'm probably gonna get regardless of what you guys say, but I wanna know what people think and what are some major benefits and disadvantages of switching! Thanks!

i got an XL and a 2500
at first i didn't like the 2500, couldn't get a lot of things done the way i was used to
slapped on JJ OS and it was a lot easier for me. now i haven't turned on the xl in months.
not only the machine is a lot faster than the xl too

its no different than the 1k, fyi. but yeah it's tight. lots of similarities between the 2kxl, but def faster, more options. it's fly.

Yeah, but the non-flip screen on the 1k sucks. It's like you have to almost hoover over the damn thing the entire session. It's not like the 2000 where it has a drastic-ish slant. Seems much more flat. And the volume knobs look like they were made for childrens hands. I'm gonna ask my brother-in-law to bring his over so I can play with it (no homo) a bit before I continue to bash it!

yes there is a difference between the 1k and 2500. the slanted screen, the damn pads is pretty noticable, and how about more outs. the 1000 is the economy 2500. it's comparing the rsx to the nsx.

the 2500 is worth it if you can find one for cheap. i'll admit i was in the market for a 3000 or a 60II, but the simplicity of the 2500 -- given the usb, internal hd, ram, chop shop, 8 outs, tons of midi outs, i couldn't resist... especially for what i paid. add the jj free os or even os1 or 2, and damn you don't need anything else.

get on on craigslist if you can... sit down and play with it (pause) before you buy it

I say git it! Although I got a 3000 now I sometimes miss my 1000 w/ JJ a bit, So I may cop a used 2500 w/ JJ soon, (but I'm still keepin the 3000).

yeah good point, the 2500 is the deluxe version of 1000, but you get my point.

just be careful how much you end up payin for the same capability as the 1000.

to me, the ultimate "better" element of the 2500 over the 1000 is those extra midi outputs. everything else (sliders, analog outputs, tilt screen) is in my opinion sugar-free icing on the cake. however, those extra midi outs could be absolutely crucial depending on your setup. me, luckily, i don't need those extra midi outputs since the only midi destination i use is reason. other folks with more modules and hardware will require more. in their case, they'd be better off with the 2500.

otherwise, i really couldn't be bothered. i need something i can take with me everywhere - to work, to leisure.

That's one of the biggest pluses in my mind.

Well, I went to this music store in Akihabara, Tokyo tonight, called Music Vox. I got to play with both of them and just like I thought, the flat screen on the 1000 does infact suck. So the tilt screen alone pushes to the 2500. I was able to find my way around the 2500 pretty quickly in the 10 minutes I fooled with it. I like it and it feels MUCH more solid and dense than the XL. When I hit the XL pads, it seems like you could feel it flexing. I didn't notice this until I played with the 2500. The 2500 feels more like a brick. It was very close to $2000 new here in Japan.

Also, I am thinking about selling my XL to fund the 2500. Does anyone one know if my XL stuff will load up on the 2500 with my CF card and a USB zip drive or will I need to keep the XL? I know I read that the stock 2500 OS programs and songs aren't compatible with the JJ, which I would be getting as well.

The pads are the biggest selling points for me. I can't do a lot of my rolls on the 1000 becuase I'm just used to the regular sized pads, and the tilt screen is also a plus. The price of a used 2500 when compared to a used 1000 is very minimal. A friend of mine just bought a used 2500 on craigslist last week for $700.00, but I usually see them going for about $900-1200.
I think the 2500 is the way to go if your used the the size of the 2000XL.
