need a little help

whats up everybody,just got a 1k couple of days ago ,i have a nice 2 bar sample need some help with getting the drum pattern to fit .. everytime i make a drum pattern its either too fast or too slow..am i recording in the wrong bpm or tempo ?can some of you O.G.'s hook a brotha out with some pointers please....

1. trigger the sample on the down beat of bar 1 then use tap tempo button to get tempo of sample is one way

2. use program screen to change pitch of sample to fit your beats tempo

Use time correct sparingly if at all. and for sure not with an "awkward" sample. I only use it rarely for a single drum part like a 1trk hht or a snare on an awkward sample so I can guage timing if it's really weird or just not sitting right. If you are playing the whole sample one shot, I'd reccomend choping that shit down and laying the fractions of the original sample across the pads in a program then playing it out from the new fragmented samples you made by choping, instead of just playing the uncut sample and trying to time it (tho u can if you want...obviously). if you have a newer akai os or if yer running JJ, you can just use the slice/chop feature and place the chopped sample directly into the program (this is how I do on JJ- dont kno about akai, I think you have to then assign samps after slicing to a program on akai but idk). this chop/slice method allows you to play your samples "live" into the beat and use yer 1k more like a pad version of a keyboard,this method is arguably what the mpc was designed for. yer also gonna immediately find that you'll have much more range in the manipulation of the sounds that make up the sample-leading to more creative possibilities. sorry to point this out but it's all in the manual lol- I hate when people say that.
