Triggering MPC200xl Pads from external Sequencer via midi

Hello all,
I read through all of this post and I learned all of this today as far as sequencing a MPC2000 with sonar. Thing only thing I had different was a Motu MTP AV in between the two. But what I was trying to do should have been real simple but I couldnt get it to work. I could get the two to sync in master or slave mode, but all I wanted to do was to trigger (record) sonar and tap my pads on the MPC ( sending midi ) and have Sonar to playback the midi from a sonar track to trigger the pads on the MPC. After working with the MPC for the last two weeks or so , I figure I would just use it for the drum sounds and assign them indiviually out through the expansion card to indiviuall ins on my digital mixer. I think the seperation would help with certain mixes. But to no avail, I couldnt get it to work. Is this possible?

Let me be a little more direct.

Is it possible to trigger the pad or sounds on a MPC2000xl from a external sequencer? Meaning can I record with a external sequencer using midi in/out and have the sequencer send the midi commands back to the mpc?

The same way I would with a keyboard or a drum machine?

BTW, Im not talking about syncing because I know how that works already.

For one Im not Lazy. I do this stuff all day everyday. I posted this question after spending 2 hours or so trying to get the MPC to do something that I have been doing with midi gear for years. So after I could not get the MPC to do what I was looking for I posted the question in another forum. Then I did a google search and found this one so I posted the question here. I wasnt asking for step by step instructions. Just will the MPC do it or not. The manual only refers to syncing with external sequencers or multitracks in slave or master mode. I have no problem getting the MPC to do either whether MTC, MMC, SMPTE, etc. I have been clocking and syncing gear for years. I just wanted to trigger the damn sounds from a external sequencer if possible. The manual doesn't cover this.

It is possible, but I am not sure why one would waste perfectly good MPC this way. The sampler is hardly a sampler at all and most of the value of the MPC is in the sequencer and interface. If you want a simple slave sampler there are ones designed for this very purpose, run rings around the MPC's sampler engine, and cost 1/5 of the price (S2000, aha).

Have you tried mpc2000xl.com? There may be a somehwat related answer there that may provide the answer.

BTW, I prefer to use my current sequencer rather than the MPC's, but I do like some of the drums sounds that I have on this MPC cdrom disk.

Perish the thought!!!

Just load the sounds into a software sampler and sell the mpc to someone who will use it more.
