Looking for a compact flash drive?

so whats the final word on this reader? did u get it to work in your mp man? (if so does it hot swap?) im askin because after searching, it seems like some ppl say it does work and some say it doesn't...its a bit confusing

Didn't work. I'm sending it back tomorrow.
My advice to anyone wanting a CF drive is to buy an XL with one already installed and sell your old one.
I've bought 2 drives brand new from two different vendors, and they both haven't worked. There is no way that I'm about to spend $300+ on a $39 flash drive just because their "hard to find." I won't give anyone $250 for their convenience.

0y other drive was from Addonics, and that didn't work either, but I haven't tried this one tho. You may have better luck.

I ordered one of these psism card readers around the same time this thread was made, then after reading the thread i was sceptical about it working. After a few attempts i found that the small jumper was on the top of the drive not the back, i then changed that to master, and as long as there is actually a card in the drive when i switch it on, it works great! and you can also hotswap it and load from different cards while the mpc is on. Iv seen that people have had mixed results with this reader, but id like to confirm that the model i received 'R312XXX00150BH03R' works great.

You serious? I tried every setting and every different combination but this same reader wouldn't work for me. Did you use the supplied cable or did you have a separate power cable going into the drive? I thought it was kinda weird to have the power supplied in the ribbon cable, but surprisingly it powered the unit.

Nah i used the factory cable that came with the internal zip and didnt use that little white power connector at all. i used the standard power and ribbon cable. I must admit it took me a few attempts before i successfully installed it. I couldnt work out that power cable coming off the ribbon cable either, so i just left it. Did you notice the tiny jumper on the top labled J2? I e-mailed the bloke who supplies them for abit of technical advice when installing it and he was certain thev had lots of happy customers using the product in the past. So if your model was exacly the same its very wierd that it didnt work or you, anyways good luck with that other one, keep at it, coz as lots on here will also tell you, its so much better with the CF reader installed.

Yeah, that is how SCSI works. And that is why you must be very sure that the ribbon cable is properly connected or else it could ruin something.

I dont think the drive was SCSI, the one i installed deffinately wasnt. It was IDE ATA, i didnt say ATAPI anywhere on the drive or the website but still manages to hot swap. Roxstar have you considered that your atapi/ide internal connector may be faulty if you have had no luck with any CF drives to date?

Neither SCSI nor ATAPI/IDE supplies power through the ribbon cable. Power must always be supplied separately; that is why the drives always have either a floppy type power connector or a molex HD type power connector. If you were trying to install an ATAPI/IDE card reader drive and you didn't have a separate power source connected, it could not have worked.

I suppose I should note that there is one exception to this rule with SCSI: 80-pin SCSI drives do get power and SCSI ID information through the same 80-pin connector as the SCSI signal but that has no application with samplers because you always have to adapt an 80-pin drive down to 50-pin and that adapter separates the power into a separate molex connector.

I thought about that for a hot second, but the zip drive seems to work fine everytime. When I go to the load screen with the Zip drive, the Atapi option shows up, but only the SCSI option shows up with the CF drive. So the connector works, just not with card reader.

One more exception is that some devices use a 44 pin IDE Connector found in Laptop Hard drives which does in fact supply the power (the 26$ CF Reader I recommended in my other thread for example) gives you the option of choosing either way to power it, the Molex/Floppy style Power as you specified, or you could use a 40 pin to 44 pin 2.5" Laptop Hard Drive adapter Cable in which power gets ported into those extra pins via a Floppy/Molex style power connector. (Redundant I know)

I saw the model number is the same of the apro model...pictures on website are differents.Anyone can tell me if these models are the same?
