using samples with drums already in them. how do YOU arrange

i always get turned off of samples if they have drums in them, but i know hella people use samples with drums already in them so my question is, what the **** are you supposed to do if you have a sample with drums in it, just play over it perfectly? wouldent it sound messed up if you played your own drums and thiers was still playing?

or would you chop them up and say have each pad start where a snare or kick or hat starts, then just layer like that, but that would still limit you becuase you would have two timbres of snare or whatever if you wanted to put another instrument where that original snare was...

i guess i just have to try it, but i cant make a new beat for like a week cuase i dont have my equipment with me anymore so i guess this i just kind of a rant.

but im just looking for some tips on what YOU guys do wehn you run into this situation. do you tend to steer clear of samples with drums in them already?

and when you do chop these samples, would you chop them into equal parts or would you chop them where the drum transients start at?

i usually chop them into equal parts whenever i make beats, but im starting to think that this wouldent work with a sample with drums already in it because i might chop in a place that cuts in between a drum hit and that would mess up the whole sample wouldent it?

yo just dont worry bout to the drums right now, once you put your own joints over the sample they will be barely noticeable. on rare ocasions if the drum patern is hot enuf in the sample ill just copy the same pattern over it w my own drums.

I remove the drums using a mrum kareoke machine.

I work with them, filtering them out as much as I can.... but I try to avoid using samples with drums

When i have a sample with drums i often just record drums over it. Seems to work fine for me in the past 5 years, so there shouldnt be messed up liek u said.

iv heard people do crazy things with a combination of their own drums with drums in a sample .

e.g layering a kick in the sample with your own will naturely make a louder kick and extra highhats can give swag to your hats

What about lowering the kick sound. if u cant make the hi hats fit correctly with the other hi hats than you have a bad rhythm or maybe bad choice of hi hat.

BTW It depends on what kind of sample u use when u use a combination of samples with drums with your own drums.. like 60's 70's samples (like most ppl sample) have lower drums than ppl make today( probably cause of recording live), so it works fine using drums over the other drums. But now days Drums on all songs are most likely the highest sound in a song.
So yes it would sound crappy if you sample a song from nowdays.

um actually i am yea i dont really collecte recorders newer then the 70's
And when i aproach beat makings i like to stay with the idea that there are no rules

if your cutting game is on point they you could make some crazy sounding drums

hi hats should always be able to fit on other hihats .. the swing of the hi hats may not go good together but when they do you can have some sick hi hats..

like seriously man i dont know what your talkin about you obviously never have layered a kick to a sample kick and got a dope sound i have.. and the resulting sound dosent matter

alot of people in this forums are to straight from the book be creative try new things
every single technique or trick in the producer world those not work for every SITUATION

you should NEVER get turned of if you really really like the sample i swear to you stick to an idea truley it will come out dope
