Personally I'm not into the whole "this mpc is better than that" because the same ppl will tell you "its all about what you're comfortable with" will come around and bash something they don't like.
Personally i love the 5k because I got EXACTLY what i knew i was paying for. I wanted the bigger screen, the 8 outs, the ease of use, the DVD drive and the compactflash (which is SUPER convenient if you have a compactflash drive on your computer, which i do). I paid $2700 and got all these along w/ the upgraded memory and a 250GB hard drive. I learned on the 2k and 4k and i STILL love the 5k more.
Now, this is not to say that there aren't MANY areas that the 5000 can be improved on, because there are alot of features this machine should really have given today's day and age, and there are alot of things maybe the programmers could include in updates that will make it great. But again, if people do their research and really investigate what they are getting before buying, then there's little room for disappointment. And besides, there's always a return period for something. I've been using software for years (and have made lots of money doing so) and i still prefer hardware, regardless of what "setbacks" people might feel there are.
As far as the "Mpc sound" or the "mpc timing" i dont believe in all that because you can get whatever sound you want if you know what you're doing. That being said, i think any and all mpc's are worth getting, or any other soft/hardware....just as long as you know what you want, and know what to buy to achieve your desired results.
