Should I trade my 500 for a 2000 classic??

I'm about to trade my MPC500 for a 2K classic, would rather have a 60 or a 3K, but for now this is the opportunity I'm getting, and I'm primarily concerned with sound over workflow or advanced sampling features. What do ya'll think??

That's a downgrade not an upgrade.

Thing is, I read that the older model MPC's have better A/D D/A converters, and sequencing engine. plus I like the feel of the pads. I know a 2K aint a 60 or a 3K, but it would seem to be better than having a little MPC500.

It's not, especially if it's not an XL.

You'll wake up when the euphoria wears off. Upgrade to something else if it's that important.

pad feel can be dealt w/. and sequencing swing can be emulated w/ sk1llzzz. if i had the money to spare i'd like a 500. man you already choppin by ear! that's like a mini 3k

I love the feel of the 2000. That was the first model I ever worked with. If I was faced with just one choice between the two, it would be tough.
If I didn't need all the modern features, then I'd go for the 2000.
Even with it's limitations, you can still make bangers with it.
As far as sound quality between the 2000 and the 500, they sound a bit different. In my opinion, I like the sound of the 2000 better. But you're better off comparing them for yourself, since everyone's taste in sound quality tends to differ.

The 2000 is a more inspiring machine to work on in my opinion due to the size ect.. But you need to consider the options on the 2000 you are looking at . I say do it if it has the effects and 8 out board. The 2000 is a great machine and you can build programs from your wav libraries with mpc editor software. It has less memory but I have never filled up mine so that is not so much of an issue for drums and short samples. Make no mistake the 2000 is a great sampler and alot of classic albums have been produced with it. The 500 is a toy when you compare build quality but since it is 10 years newer it has sme advanced features.. If it was me and the 2000 was clean with at least one of the options I listed I would do it in a heart beat ..

Also the 2000 classics are getting tougher to find in decent shape. It will always be a classic.

Don't forget your chances of finding a 2000 without issues, a machine that's close to 15 years old now, is slim. If it's working now there likelihood of it still working well, without any need for repair, a year from now is doubtful.

The 500 on the other hand should keep going for a while . . .

The guys that are telling you this is lying!!! Get one of the MPD's for better pads, dont downgrade just because the gear is "oldskool"!

Well I decided to keep my 500, But ultimately I inteng on getting a 3K. as for sequencing, I got my 500 as the master to my mac book and microKORG, but I was wondering if theres a difference in the newer generation MPC's sequencing accuracy and "swing" than from the older ones. or even an ASQ-10.

The 3000 is also a downgrade.

If it's a sturdy feeling you want akin to the classic MPCs look at the 2500. I'd recommend the 5000 but at that price range I'd personally much rather own an MV-8800.
