It doesn't make sense,

The MPC 5000 doesn t support keygroups

Most if not all akai discs are keygrouped

That s why ...

However you can use your pc with chicken translator or any akai disc reader to import the wav files

I take it that the original poster asked if the S5000 could do this rather than a MPC. :?:

And yes, the S5000 does support keygroups.

sorry i meant mpc5k. i had an s5k (and s6k) which i loved, mjust still be in my blood, but eventually fell for vsts. now i want to hit back at hardware and use my lovely sample cds as my work uses pc all the time. never had an mpc other than the 1k but it's not quite where i want it to be so i'm looking towards the mpc5k.

so is there a reason for this lack of backward compatability? i've even been eyeing up the mv8800 so i can load it up as it supports old akai formats.

i just don't get it. what's the problem? akai practically ran the sample cd format for years and years until software came about. even then software developers knew to keep supporting akai format and still do.

so why on earth not akai in their OWN products:?:

if the answer is, it doesn't support keygroups, then my question will be changed to, why not?

thanks for listening

Yeah, you have plenty of alternatives...MPC 4k, Z4 and Z8, S5k or 6k and a MPD. But you'll have to take your question of why didn't Akai put keygroups on their other samplers to Akai themselves.

i just made this topic in some vain hope that they add this feature in soon. unless there is a very good architectural reason they haven't (which would still be ridiculous).

anyway, no other mpc offers what the mpc5k does right now except support back formats.

ah well, linn 2 is looking the real deal, what will come first, os2.0 for mpc5k or the linn2?

akai better be quick!!!

probably a new mv at namm too with arx board support and i bet...a synth onboard.

Keygroups are not needed for everyone you know ( i don t need them at all on my 5000 ...)

Linndrum 2 won t have keygroup ...

To be honnest i think there will be at least one MPC firmware before the linndrum 2 comes out

Roger linn & DSI are still looking for devellopers for their OS

it's difficult to know which way to go right now. the synth is a definite draw for me as i'm trying to rebuild a setup similar to what i had many years ago before i moved to soft altho9ugh i want it alot more minimal. i'm even looking at workstations :o

you can bet if i bought a 4k akai would release an update for 5k with keygroups. plus the 4k is not supported anymore (parts?) wheras who knows what the future holds for the 5k.

however i still really dig ak.sys! :)

i totally agree!!! ....keygroups is SUCH a "must" that its incredibly rediculous that the 5000 doesn't have them, ...and for $2500, .....a "full screen" sampler,

.....why in the world would they not allow this to occur?.

...much less if they went above and beyond this function and the support for all prior AKAI formats, ...like the MV's, ....what if they added other formats as well? ...it could go on and on, ...and these are not "major" upgrades, ...but some that i feel can simply be programmed over a month or so.

anyway, ....just my thoughts.
