Anyone else here still buy hip-hop vinyl?

I have serato and all that... yet I still can't help owning the real shit. I still find myself spending a considerable amount of dough on hip-hop vinyl and I can't reason with myself why...

Anyone else do this?

Why not? If you like the music than the artist deserves compensation to keep on making it.
I personally don't buy Hip Hop anymore cuz I'm fed up with the state of things for the past 10 years. However when something worth while comes out I make the effort of paying for it.

If a new release isn't on vinyl the chances of me downloading it from some blog is about 75%. CDs have no value to me; MP3s have even less.

For me to enjoy an LP in its entirety I need it spinning on a platter beside or behind me. CD? Not quite the same. MP3? I'm clicking on files, listening for 5 seconds then skipping.

I bought K Def's new record, Primo's "Beats that Collected Dust." The new Scratchy Seal. I wanted to buy Lil Dap's new one on vinyl but it was CD only.

A reissue of "De La Soul is Dead" on 180g vinyl is supposed to come out soon.

There's just not a lot of new stuff that really moves me. Whether it's commercial or underground. I just feel like making the music I want to hear and that's suffice for me, alongside collecting tons of jazz, soul, and classic rock.

I'm waiting for the next thing to catch my ear and I just haven't stumbled upon it yet.

All the Time. I'm in New Zealand and there is mammoth holes in my collection, I just picked up a 2nd hand copy of Aquemini, I normally don't like to buy 2nd hand newish wax but I'd never seen a copy before. I download a bit of music but I think thats fine because if I like it I'll try get it on wax because there is nothing quite like the process and sound of a good record.

Definitely. Something about letting it play and checking out the cover. We had a power outage last night for over two hours and I just sat by the handy trax and bumped some vinyl I hadn't listened to yet.

Nothing can replace that to me. I get stoked to find out that some of my favorite artists are still releasing LP's... I went nuts on sandboxautomatic's ebay sale this week and copped all sorts of old and unopened classic vinyls - masta ace, illmatic, mobb deep, etc. I have the CD's... but I guess to me it's like how heads collect old shoes. No matter what others think, they have value to me just owning them.

What's great is since everyone is going Serato they're selling all their wax. You get some really classic, somewhat hard to find 12"s for pennies at local shops. The 80s stuff is popping up like mad for me.

Maybe that person is ripping the vocal and instrumental, but so many 12"s had acapellas, remixes, extended remixes, dubs, vinyl-only b-sides. Those cats are the ones who really into this for the music, just a tool to use at a party or on a mixtape or whatever.

not normally , but yes i pick up some rap stuff here and there.
i stick mostly to 80's music and 70's soul & disco,rock.
if it aint old and it aint on vinyl i dont need it or listen to it.

yes they still make rap records THEY STILL MAKE RECORDS PERIOD.

Yup. I hadn't been to an Amoeba or Rasputin type store recently but the prices have certainly gone down as of my last visit about a month ago... even at record swaps the prices have really dropped on hip-hop. for people who've been buying hip-hop since the early 90s, it's heaven!

I like to support the artists/labels I respect and I like owning the vinyl for sure. The next hip hop vinyl I'll pick up wil probably be Brother Ali - The Undisputed Truth. I've had it as MPthriftiez for a while and played it A LOT, but it's so good and he's such a righteous dude, that I would love a copy of the real deal. I also like to get out to the same artists shows and buy the stuff off them in person and possibly support by buying other merch like shirts and whatnot too.

i love original spinning, sometimes you need a break from serato.

+ I do have serious problems with dj's playing them mp3s, if you play some real rare gems you definently should own them instead of downloading them.

for production/turntableism/mixtapes I don't care if you use serato but you have to own the real ones.

I have thought serato cause I'm so stressed about playing the rare and expensive records, but I never can save the money for it cause of buying records lol

TAPES : still but em once in a while, just love that caaaassette feel
C.D's : buy em only if i can handle listenin to the whole album in my bed or bath room
( gotta have a stereo in both places )
MP3's : only for the ipod & a quik cd 2 drive to...
VINYL : jus don't care, will pay for my collection to only get bigger, new or old... pay only up
to $25 or less... SERATO is for lazy dj's & one's that travel lots,...but will have 2 admit,
somuch easier than carrying all that weight ....
but i love those crates...

Yep still buy a lot of hip-hop vinyl, although it's gotten harder to find 'em here (in Denmark)... On second though it has also gotten easier, cuz nowadays the mainstream shops in Denmark sell vinyl which they didn't do like 5-6 years ago... but just not much hip-hop vinyl... but yep I by far prefer the vinyl format. The last hip-hop vinyl I bought was an used copy of Pete Rock's "PeteStrumentals". Dope record!

i really was never into tapes, although i own a ton of them... all that rewinding and fast forwarding just gets in the way of listening to me, but i do record drums and samples to tape because my broke ass can't afford (or find) an s950 in good condition
