MPC500 colors your sound!?

I was reading the MPC500 forums and saw people saying that the little "Toy MPC" actually colors and fattens the sounds you sample into it, more so than a MPC1000. can anyone shed more light on this

Well as far as the 500 coloring your sound, I can't say yay or nay.
But like Lamp was saying, it all boils down to that devices' sonic charateristics.

it's kinda just people getting too technical about stuff. between the newer mpc models i'd put money on the fact that you wouldn't hear a spit of difference between any of them. although i'm sure, technically, there are differences. but i just don't think it's something the human ear would even pick up.

now an older mpc vs a newer one - there you could hear a difference. but any better or worse? depends on who you ask.

yeah... I wanted to hear for myself the difference between machines. I loaded a single WAV file (a 12-bar loop I composed in reason, multiple instruments) and played it back through my MV-8000, and recorded it to Cubase. Then I did the same for my MPC-1000.

I played both of these mixdowns and tried to do a A/B comparison. Not much difference. I'm sure if I played them for people, no one could say positively which mix was from what machine. of course you have a 50% chance of being correct, but the point is very few (if any) people would know for sure.

let's not forget everything that goes into the 'sound' you get out of an mpc, cables, mixers, speakers, sampling sources, ect...

also worth noting, pretty much everything ever made on a mpc, gets mastered before it gets released. want to talk about coloring let's move this discussion to the atmospheres forum...

There is a slight difference between the 500 and 1k. I read it on the forum so I checked it. I never noticed before, and probably still wouldn't have noticed if I had never read about it. But the 500 sounds just a liiiiiiiiiiilll bit warmer. But the difference is not that big. I think an average music listener couldn't even tell u the difference. And for me the differnce in sound is not big enough to choose the 500 over the 1000.

do you know if the 2000xl has much of a different sound than a 2500? eg more old school sound or not necessarily ( i mean there are alot of years difference between their production im assuming there must be some sound difference)

But what about making whole track on Akai vs Roland MV?
Difference will become more visible.
It is same on Akai VS Fl Studio/Reason, make all track on it and there is difference, good or bad, you judge

Fruity loops beats always sound 'flat'..Mpc's really do something to the samples..phattens and colors them.
