Hiya peoples,

first time here, and wow. Lotsa good stuff. Anyway I just got myself an MPC60 for the cheap after looking for half a year and it is gonna need some checking out when it gets here. I was wondering what are the first things firsest I should look at to try and figure out how bad I got burned. :-) OMG I hope not!!! It's the first one and has OS 3.03 and that's about all cept the ebay guy said it plays and loads and is somewhat funkified in the looks dept. Oh well, it was about $500 yanno.

I have a little studio with a friend, my own Roland R70 and a s1000, she has 2 R8M modules wiyh all the nice cards and a s900 so we should be having a lot of fun with the beats soon. Yay.

bye,

Alejandra

It has two knobs missing, the contrast and the volume. It looked good in the picture though, all the writing was good, bright screen the guy said. He said the sides were scuffed some. hey.

I remember seeing that one  :o

It doesn't look bad. You may not be able to get new replacement buttons but maybe you can....heres a little heads up....

if you plan on keeping it you better blow it out now while the parts are still available...meaning

1. scsi option $300
2. 3.10 software option $200- $450 if you get both at the same time...
3. expanded ram- $100 if you can find it....not sure who would even have it

for these upgrades look to www.forat.com and www.rlinndesign.com

congrats on the purchase??????????

it has 3.03, and may have scsi for all we know.

Check the disk button and option 8 or 9 for disk options for scsi.

Go to the roger linn site and read the faq, he has a way to check for scsi option without opening it.

Kybeats, you had 3.03 right? What are the differences between that and 3.10?

The big thing that I noticed is that with 3.03 you have the poly/mono/note off option which is a BIG plus..... :)

On the other hand the maximum sample time per one sample is still only 5 sec...... :(

Like I can live the 5 sec thing becuz I have another sampler and it does minutes worth. s1000.

What is the poly/mono/note off thingy?

yo bought knobs from VST. They're cool and cheaper than forat but no one has the contrast knob.

and like elmacaco said it could already have the memory - seems likely cos who would up the software and not do the memory? I sure do wish it had the scsi thing though... I use the zip disks on my s1000 and they are sweet.

But thanks guys I am already likin this place!

Alejandra

ps - I WAN MY MPC BOOOOOOO!

What is the poly/mono/note off thingy? ???

Thats just how the notes are played.

Mono will allow you to hit the pad and retrigger the sound from the beginning over and over like a stutter effect.

Poly repeats the note, when you hit a pad the same sound will replay and overlap each other.

Note off the sound will only play while you have your hand on the pad. When you remove it the sounds will stop.

"..and like elmacaco said it could already have the memory.."

Yeah I was just preparing you for worst case.....
best case....it has everything you need...either way, good luck and I know you can't wait...

Man is the 60 forum poppin' now. Gather round my children, soon we will spread our 12 bit word!!

The poly mono thing may not be an issue if you chain it with the 1000 (good combo, DJ Krush used that piece for a while.) since the 1k will have those features, but it feels good to trick out the 60, it is the best money I've spent besides the 60 itself.

Im tryng to get a 60I and Ive gone back and read every post from the first to where Im at now. Being that this is old I dont want to offend people by bringing up something that me be covered later in the forums as I read into the future from where Im at at this one. But, I own a 2000 and a 1000 and I dont care so much for note off but I like poly and mono for the pads. Mono the most. And what Im reading says that the 3.03 has all 3 but what does the 3.10 have? Since that is what im tryng to get. Also enjoying you guys so far in the forum archives and cant wait to join the 60 crew. Long time reader first time caller! =-) haha. Also if the 60 Im tryng to get actually comes, what is the first inspection I should do? Like cleaning and status check.

cleaning u see what u get, those pics of the funkified 60 looks like a pretty damn clean 60 I to me.. pick up some knobs - i think 16 bones each at forat..

just make sure it all works is all id say, thats the biggest thing,
make sure the pads work and all that...
